Salty coastal air loosens the joints of wooden bed frames over time, so we open the screw holes to check they are clear before closing anything up.

How we work

Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

Dhahban sub municipality is the northern coastal strip of Jeddah, running from the north bank of Sharm Obhur up to the old village of Dhahban and Salman Bay. Its districts are recently built, with owner occupied villas and apartments, beach resorts and chalets on the shore, and land subdivisions still being developed. Nearness to the sea keeps humidity high all year, irrigated lawns in villas, resorts and district parks hold water, Wadi Obhur and the vacant plots between buildings give rodents and reptiles shelter, and the old fishing village of Dhahban gives the far north a rural edge.

Questions about this district

We open our villa only for beach weekends, does the bedding need checking each time?

If the house stays shut most days, a routine check on reopening is normally enough, but dark spots on the sheet or itching on your first night back are a sign that calls for an immediate check before you sleep there again.

We rent our chalet to a new family every week, should bedding be checked between guests?

Yes, every new guest brings a different chance of carrying something in, so checking the mattress and cushions between bookings serves this trade far better than relying on one seasonal check for the whole year.

Does the sea humidity here kill bed bugs on its own?

No, humidity affects other pests far more than it affects this one: bed bugs live and breed inside cracks and seams regardless of how damp or salty the surrounding air happens to be.

Does salty air cracking chalet furniture create more hiding spots?

It can: the fine cracks that salt and humidity work into wood over time give both eggs and insects somewhere extra to sit, so coastal chalet furniture needs a closer look than furniture in an ordinary inland home.

Guests arrive from the airport straight to our chalet, do their bags need checking on arrival?

Yes, a bag straight off a long flight can carry bed bugs without any obvious sign on the outside, and keeping it away from the bed on that first night lowers the chance of anything moving across to the mattress.

Most villas on our street are holiday homes, does that lower the bed bug risk?

It can lower the chance of it travelling in from next door while houses sit empty, but the bigger risk still comes from bedding and furniture arriving through your own visits or rentals, not from the neighbours.
