Why they keep coming back in Badr

On our visits to Badr we notice that the first bedding put down in a new flat has usually come from an old rented place elsewhere, not furniture bought fresh for the room. The method is set out in full on Bed bug control in detail.

The first reason

Finished flats next to empty plots

Many buildings in Badr have one or two flats finished while the rest of the plot sits empty or still being dug, so when furniture first goes into that flat there is no neighbouring occupancy history to draw on, and the inspection has to start from the furniture itself rather than the block's record.

The second reason

A district renamed, not rebuilt

Badr is a stretch of the old Sharai scheme carrying a new name, so some households moving in have come from an older home inside that same original scheme and assume nothing has really changed between the two addresses, though the years between them may include an infestation that was never treated.

The third reason

Services still catching up

Utilities in Badr are still being connected, so some households move in before every piece of furniture arrives and keep temporary floor bedding in the guest room in the meantime, and that bedding needs the same attention at the seams as a fixed bed frame would get.

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

That means flats furnished for the first time sit among plots still empty, so there is no prior infestation history to check against, and inspection has to start from the furniture itself rather than the district's record.

Questions about this district

We buy furniture from Khadra or Usaylah since Badr has no shops yet, does it need checking?

Yes. The short drive between Badr and its neighbours does not stop bed bugs travelling with the piece itself, and checking new furniture before it goes into a flat that nobody has lived in yet avoids a surprise later.

Old furniture is sometimes left on the vacant plot next door, does that put our flat at risk?

Furniture left out in the open picks up damp and insects alike, and if it is later carried into another home in the district it can bring something along that has not shown itself yet, so it is worth checking before it enters any flat.

Our old home was in the original Sharai scheme before it became Badr, does our furniture need checking?

The new name does not change the furniture's own history, so if the earlier home had an infestation the pieces that moved with you carry the problem into Badr regardless of what the district used to be called.

We live in the flat before all the furniture arrives and use temporary floor bedding, does that need checking too?

Floor bedding gets folded and stored by hand every day, which puts it closer to the sleeper's body than a fixed bed, so it deserves the same attention at the seams and edges as a permanent frame would get.

Our ground floor flat is next to an unsold, empty unit, does our shared wall need checking?

An empty unit is not automatically a safe one, since it may hold building materials or display furniture waiting to be sold, so we check the shared wall and the sockets between the two units, since that is the shortest path between them.

Building numbers keep changing as construction continues, does that affect our second visit?

We record the first visit against the unit's position and features, not the building number alone, so when numbers change or new signs go up we still find your flat from where it actually sits, and the second visit lands on schedule without confusion.
