Survey the roof and the facade

We walk the roof, the projections, the condenser platforms and the shafts, separate the nesting positions from the perching ones, and measure and photograph every ledge.

Strip the nests and treat the parasites

Droppings are wetted before they are lifted so nothing goes airborne dry, bagged closed, and the nest position is treated for ticks and mites before the surface is sanitised.

Close and fit

Netting tensioned on a perimeter wire with no gap at the corners, spikes or wire on the narrow projections, metal mesh across vents and shafts, and the roof drains freed of the nest material packing them.

The follow-up visit

We come back to check the tension, the corners and any position the flock has moved to, and correct what has slackened before a bird finds it.

Questions about this district

The ledge is very old rusted iron; will deterrents work on corroded metal?

Rust makes the ledge weak and unable to bear heavy fixing. We choose light deterrents or repair the iron first. We may use plastic or brass frames instead of adding new steel.

The shop below me is a small restaurant and food waste attracts pigeons; what do we do?

We fit deterrents on the shop ledge and the flat above. We advise him to clean scraps, fallen food and water from outside his shop. We focus on protecting the space between you with extra deterrents.

The quarter is very old and structures are weak; can we fit heavy deterrents?

Old structures cannot bear heavy fixings. We use very light deterrents or plastic frames. We may fit frames to flex slightly and distribute weight.

The walkway sits next to the quarter; can we arrange with the promenade to clean droppings?

Yes. We coordinate with the promenade and corniche management to clean droppings around the quarter. The walkway may have spaces that also attract pigeons.

High humidity from the sea will affect metal deterrent durability?

Yes. High humidity speeds rust and corrosion. We use brass or plastic frames instead of ordinary steel. Plastic frames are not affected by salt and humidity.

The quarter is mixed shops and homes; do we need approval from both the shop and home owners?

Yes. The ledge may be shared between shop and home. We contact both owners. If one person owns both we contact him only.
