We walk the roof, the projections, the condenser platforms and the shafts, separate the nesting positions from the perching ones, and measure and photograph every ledge.

Strip the nests and treat the parasites

Droppings are wetted before they are lifted so nothing goes airborne dry, bagged closed, and the nest position is treated for ticks and mites before the surface is sanitised.

Close and fit

Netting tensioned on a perimeter wire with no gap at the corners, spikes or wire on the narrow projections, metal mesh across vents and shafts, and the roof drains freed of the nest material packing them.

The follow-up visit

We come back to check the tension, the corners and any position the flock has moved to, and correct what has slackened before a bird finds it.

Clean, open and deterrent-free roofs are the pigeon's first choice before a neighbourhood fills with people and noise. Pigeons arrive from older, crowded districts looking for quiet, clean space where they can establish nesting sites undisturbed.

The land around our plot is full of excavations. Do these draw pigeons?

Yes, empty land and exposed ground offer feeding sites near the roofs. Pigeons find food in freshly turned earth and new rubble, so they become more active around the neighbourhood and stay close to roofs for nesting.

Construction noise is constant. Does this scare pigeons away from nesting?

Construction noise at set times does not scare pigeons away; it actually gives them quiet windows to nest. Pigeons adapt quickly to regular noise patterns and will nest regardless of daytime building work.

As the neighbourhood fills with residents, will pigeons decrease?

Yes, crowding and constant human activity, children playing in streets and on roofs will reduce pigeons significantly. But if you do not fit deterrents now, pigeons will establish themselves and removing nests and sealing the roof becomes much harder later.

Building is still underway. Should I fit deterrents now or wait?

Fit deterrents before the building is complete and before pigeons establish nesting sites. After building finishes, removing old nests, droppings and sealing all positions becomes far more disruptive and costly.

Does Wadi Uranah bring new pigeons every rainy season?
