Why they keep coming back in Al Bayban

In Al Bayban homes we notice that most of the roaches emerging come from the joints in the stonework and from behind the wooden rawashin, rather than from the drawers beside the sink. The method is set out in full on our Cockroach control service.

The first reason

Walls of thick stone

Al Bayban's houses are built from thick stone that has cracked with age, and the joints and hollows inside them are a permanent home for the American cockroach. What shows in the kitchen is one edge of a colony living deep in the wall, so we inject the treatment into the cracks themselves rather than over their face.

The second reason

Aged timber rawashin

The old wooden rawashin and window frames are full of joints and cavities that trap warmth and moisture, making harbourage a passing spray leaves untouched. We treat these voids with a placed bait that preserves the timber and still reaches whatever shelters within it.

The third reason

A home at the foot of the slope

Because the quarter sits on a hill, waste water and damp gather in the lower houses, and cockroaches reach them by travelling down the shared pipework. Treating a house at the bottom of the lane is therefore not the same job as one at the top, and we start at the points where the drains enter.

The species and the place decide the method

The quarter stands on a rocky hill, so its drainage is old and runs downhill through pipework shared between houses built wall to wall. That shared, ageing line is the route the American cockroach takes up into the lower homes.

The German cockroach reaches the kitchens of these old flats inside bags and cardboard, then moves between the wall-to-wall houses along the shared party wall it hides in.

The American cockroach is the larger one, climbing up from the old drains and the joints in the stone at night; it is the common one in a stone hillside quarter like Al Bayban.

Appliance heat

The warmth of the fridge and oven motor in these cramped kitchens draws roaches to nest behind the appliances, where the heat holds steady through the day.

The gap between the fridge and the stone wall is narrow, dark and warm, and hard to reach in an old kitchen, so it is the first hiding place we check.

Water before food

Cockroaches seek water before food, and leaking old pipes and damp within the stone walls supply it, so we shut off the sources of water before laying bait.

A single roach on the wall at night in Al Bayban means dozens hidden in the joints of stone and timber by day; the number you see is never the real one.

Questions about this district

Do cockroaches live inside the stone walls?

Yes. Thick old stone cracks over time, and the joints and hollows inside it make ideal shelter for the American cockroach. Spraying floors is not enough, so we inject the treatment into the cracks and wall openings themselves, where the colony hides and lays its egg cases.

Can you treat near the wooden rawashin without damaging them?

Yes. Near old timber we use a placed bait and fine injection into the joints rather than heavy spraying, so the rawashin do not get wet and their colour is not marked. The treatment still reaches the cavities behind the wood where the cockroaches shelter.

My house is low on the hill; why do I get more?

Because Al Bayban sits on a hill, waste water and damp drain toward the lower houses, and cockroaches follow them down through the shared pipework. Homes at the foot of the slope receive whatever passes along the line, so we focus first on the drain openings there.

My attached neighbour treated his house; will they come to me?

They may. Cockroaches cross through the shared party wall or the drain pipes that link houses built wall to wall, moving from the untreated home into the treated one. We seal the crossing points in the wall and drain on your side and place bait to intercept whatever tries to pass.

The kitchen is old and cramped; does that block access to the hiding places?

Old kitchens are narrow and their appliances sit tight against the stone walls, so the gaps behind them are hard to reach yet the most important shelters. We check behind the fridge and oven and under the cupboards, and treat the joints against the stone, points a daily clean never reaches.

In Umrah season the house holds more people; does that matter?

Al Bayban's closeness to the central area means homes fill in season with guests and longer stays, and the extra food and refuse raise cockroach activity. We strengthen the bait in the kitchen and at the drain openings before the season, treating the gathering points before numbers build.
