Cockroach control in Al Maabdah Makkah

Al Maabdah sits two kilometres from the Haram, down in the Abtah valley, where hotels, residential towers and furnished flats stand shoulder to shoulder and their occupants change with every season. That constant turnover, and the height of the buildings, lets the German cockroach travel between floors with luggage and supplies, so treating one flat alone rarely settles it without tracing the source through the whole block.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Maabdah

In the tall buildings here, we often find the flat that reports the problem is spotless, while the nest actually sits in a kitchen a floor below, or in a shared restaurant at street level. The method is set out in full on the full Cockroach control page.

The first reason

Towers and the pipes that connect them

In Al Maabdah's towers, drainage and riser pipes tie every floor together, and cockroaches move up and down inside them. Treating your flat on its own leaves that bridge standing, so we follow the line of moisture across the levels and seal its openings before we finish.

The second reason

Flats that change hands every season

Close to the Haram, furnished flats and hotels see their guests change constantly, and German cockroach eggs arrive with bags and provisions. That is why we work through the small kitchens and their cupboards, the spaces that are rarely emptied between one guest and the next.

The third reason

Shops at the base, a wadi beneath

The towers rise over ground-floor shops and restaurants, with a sewer network running through the valley bed below. The American cockroach climbs from both into stairwells and storerooms, so we check the floor drains and the traps on the lower levels first, before anything higher up.

Before treatment

The species and the place decide the method

The district lies on the floor of a low wadi, so moisture and drainage collect at its base. American cockroaches climb up from the sewer network through floor gullies into ground-floor entrances, storerooms and the lower levels of the towers.

A small light brown German cockroach

German cockroach

The German cockroach reaches the furnished flats with guests' provisions and luggage, then settles into tight kitchen drawers and appliance housings close to a source of warmth.

A larger dark cockroach on a wooden surface

American cockroach

The American is the larger one, climbing up from the wadi's sewer network through floor gullies into tower entrances and the storerooms on the lower levels.

An oven and gas hob beneath wooden shelving

Appliance heat

In furnished flats the fridges and water heaters run without pause to serve guests, and their steady warmth gives cockroaches an incubator that stays active right through the year.

A kitchen with a fridge; the gap behind it is a classic nest

The gap behind the fridge

In furnished units the appliances are pushed to the wall and never moved between one guest and the next, so the back of the fridge becomes a warm, dark refuge you rarely see.

A tap carrying water droplets

Water before food

Cockroaches look for water before food, and the leaks in the towers' shared pipework, together with the valley's damp, supply it in bathrooms and under the basins.

A dimly lit kitchen at night

What you see at night

What you glimpse at night in the tower lobby or on the stairs near the ground-floor shops points to a nest nearby, not to a single stray one passing through.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and identify

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

  2. 2

    Treat the harbourage

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

  3. 3

    Close what can be closed

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.

What cockroach control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed gel bait

In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Targeted spray where needed

On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drain and entry treatment

Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

I live in a tower, is treating just my flat enough?

In towers the flats share drainage and riser pipes, so cockroaches can return from another floor. We treat your flat and seal the pipe openings inside it, and where there is a shared source we recommend coordinating with the neighbours or the building management so the whole line is dealt with.

I let a furnished flat to pilgrims, how do I keep it clear between guests?

Fast turnover brings fresh eggs in with bags and provisions. After treatment we check the kitchen and cupboards, place lasting bait at the hiding points, and suggest a quick look through the drawers and the fridge before each new guest arrives, so nothing carried in has a chance to settle.

There is a restaurant under my tower, is it the source?

Often, yes. The kitchens of ground-floor shops are warm and rich in food, and cockroaches climb from them up through the pipework into the flats. We trace the line from the ground floor and treat the crossing points on the stairs and in the meter cupboards, not your flat alone.

Why do large cockroaches appear at the drains?

Al Maabdah sits in the floor of a low wadi, so moisture and drainage gather beneath it. The big American cockroach climbs from the sewer network up through floor gullies and gratings, which is why we treat these openings and make sure their covers seal properly.

I brought in supplies and furniture during the season, did they come with those?

Yes. The German cockroach often arrives hidden in boxes of provisions, second-hand appliances and the furniture of a let flat. We inspect anything recently brought in and concentrate the bait around where it is stored, since the eggs can hatch weeks after they arrive.

My neighbour treated their flat and now I see more, why?

When a neighbouring flat is sprayed, the cockroaches flee through the shared pipework to the nearest refuge, which is often yours. The answer is treatment at the same time, or bait that they carry back to the nest, rather than a repellent that just moves them from one door to the next.

How much does cockroach control in Al Maabdah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Maabdah.
