In the small shared kitchens the fridge is pushed back to the wall, so the warm gap behind it becomes a sheltered harbourage that we inspect and bait before the visible cupboard fronts.

Water before food

In Al Misfalah the cockroach follows moisture first, from leaks in the old pipework and the drains on the ground floors, so we close off the water sources before chasing food crumbs.

Because the turnover is fast, a cockroach is easily re-introduced if the source is still in the building.

My neighbours in the same block haven't treated. Is treating my flat alone any use?

In Al Misfalah's wall-to-wall blocks the units share a drain stack and the openings around the pipes, so the German cockroach crosses between them. We treat your flat and seal the crossing points at your end, but a source left next door keeps the pressure on, so we recommend doing the whole stack together.

There are shops and restaurants below the building. Do they affect me?

The restaurants and shops along Ibrahim Al Khalil Street beneath the housing are a constant source of food and warmth, and cockroaches climb from them up the drain lines and service stairs into the flats above. We check the connection points between the shop and the residential floor and treat them together where we can.

My home is on a damp ground floor. What is different?

Ground floors in the Al Misfalah hollow sit closer to the drainage network and stay damper, so the American cockroach climbing from the drains dominates there. We concentrate on the meter rooms, floor drains and pipe entries, and seal around them to stop the climb.

Can cockroaches arrive with pilgrims' luggage?
