I let my flat furnished in the season and roaches appeared after the guests left. Why?

Treating one flat in a block that shares a drain only pushes the cockroaches onto the neighbours; it does not end them. The answer is to treat the shared route between the two flats and seal the pipe openings between you, so they do not simply come back at the first disturbance.

I left the flat locked for months and came back to roaches. How?

Locking a flat does not drive them out; it just leaves them in peace. The warmth of the appliances and the damp in the drains remain, so they breed undisturbed until you return.
