Most common in the kitchens of the new villas on the neighbouring plots. It arrives inside moving boxes and second-hand appliances, then settles into the warm drawers and cabinets beside the hob.

Larger, and it comes up from the old sewer network under the quarter. The damp held in this low basin gives it steady water, so it rises from kitchen and bathroom drains after dark.

Appliance heat

In the narrow old kitchens they gather behind the fridge and the water heater, where the motor stays warm. They rest against that heat by day and come out once the light goes off.

Old kitchens push the fridge close to the wall, and that dark, warm gap running down to the drain pipe is the first place we check in the quarter's homes.

Water before food

On this low, damp ground thirst drives them before hunger, so they gather at bathroom leaks and under the sink. Treating those water sources matters more than hiding food on its own.

What you see at night

In the old quarter's alleys near the Haram the American cockroach shows on walls and around drains after dark. Seeing it indoors by day means the numbers are high and a nest is close.

The neighbour treated their old house, will roaches move to us?

They can. When an adjoining house is treated, the cockroaches flee through cracks and the shared pipe to the nearest warm, damp shelter, which may be yours. We seal the crossing points in your shared wall and set bait along their runs rather than relying on visible spraying alone.

We brought second-hand kitchen units into the new villa, are they the source?

Very possibly. The German cockroach and its egg cases hide in the joints of used cabinets and behind drawers, so they travel into your new kitchen intact. We inspect the moved furniture and its joints and treat them before a colony can establish itself in the new home.

Our house is on low ground where water settles, does that make it worse?

Yes. Qararah is a low basin that is slow to dry, and the damp lingering near the drains gives the American cockroach a permanent water supply, so it stays active. We focus on drying out leak points and treating the drains, because cutting off water matters more than food here.

Building work continues on the plots nearby, does it push roaches to us?

It can. Digging the ground and laying drains on the new plots disturbs the American cockroach's nests, so it looks for shelter in the nearest occupied house. We watch your boundary and the points where pipes enter, and treat them before the new arrival settles in.
