Cockroach control in Hunayn Makkah

Hunayn sits at the north eastern edge of Al Sharai, where the plots meet Wadi Hunayn on the Taif road. It is a district of newly built villas with open land and half finished subdivisions between them. Here the cockroach rarely comes out of an old wall: it arrives with the move, or in from disturbed ground and freshly laid drains, so where we look and what we treat both change.

Why they keep coming back in Hunayn

In the new villas of Hunayn we tend to see the first cockroaches appear a few weeks after people move in, not from the building itself, but from the moving boxes and the appliances they brought with them. The method is set out in full on what Cockroach control involves.

The first reason

A new home, a newly arrived pest

The villas here are recent, so the walls and pipes carry no history of infestation. That is why the German cockroach usually begins its life in Hunayn inside a moving carton or an older fridge that came with the furniture. We look at the kitchen and the contents, not the age of the building.

The second reason

Open land next door

Among the occupied villas lie plots that are not yet built and building sites still in use. Disturbed soil and heaps of rubble shelter the American cockroach, and at night it heads for the nearest lived in house. It reaches you from outside, not from within, so the perimeter has to be treated before the kitchen.

The third reason

Close to the valley bed

Near Wadi Hunayn the soil stays damper after rain, and a newly connected drain can be left with an unsealed joint during the work. The American cockroach climbs up through those openings at night, so we close the drainage route before we chase whatever has shown up in the kitchen.

The species and the place decide the method

Wadi Hunayn runs seasonally behind the plots, and the drainage here has only recently been connected. Between the open ground and the new manholes, gaps are left that give the American cockroach a route up into ground floor rooms.

It arrives in Hunayn with the moving furniture and the boxes of household goods, then settles in the new villa kitchen near warmth and moisture. It has nothing to do with how new the building is.

Larger, and coming in from the open plots and the drains near the valley, it turns up on ground floors and in gardens after damp nights.

Appliance heat

The new kitchens are crowded with modern appliances, and the warmth of the fridge motor and the oven gives the German cockroach a permanently heated hideout to breed in, out of sight.

The gap behind the fridge

When a villa is freshly furnished the fridge is pushed back to the wall, leaving a warm, dark gap behind it that is rarely cleaned. It is the first place we check.

Water before food

A cockroach looks for water before food, and here it gathers around the new kitchen and laundry connections, where a hidden trickle can seep from a fitting that is not yet fully sealed.

What you see at night

If you see a single cockroach in the villa kitchen at night, there are usually many more behind the units. The night sighting tells us where the nest is, not how large it is.

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

Questions about this district

We just moved into a newly built villa, so where did the cockroaches come from?

New construction is rarely the source. The German cockroach usually arrives with your moving cartons or an older appliance carried over from your previous home, then settles in the kitchen. That is why we start by checking the furniture you brought and the area around the appliances, rather than the age of the villa.

There is an empty plot and a building site beside us, does that matter?

Yes. The disturbed soil and leftover rubble shelter the American cockroach, and once it becomes active at night it moves towards the nearest occupied house looking for water. That is why we add a protective band around the villa and its entrances, not only inside the kitchen.

Does the nearby Wadi Hunayn bring cockroaches?

The valley bed itself is not a direct source, but the damp soil around it after rain and the drains connected to it give the American cockroach a route in. We deal with the drainage entry points and the floor gullies before anything inside the house.

We brought second hand appliances and furniture, can they carry them?

They can, and it is one of the most common routes in new districts. A second hand fridge or washing machine may carry eggs in its warm crevices. We check these appliances first and treat their internal cracks, so the problem does not return after the spray.

The drainage was only just connected, so why are they coming up the drains?

In new connections a joint can be left unsealed, or a floor trap can sit dry with no water seal, and the American cockroach finds a way up through it. We close these gaps and treat the floor drainage route to cut off the path from below.

The villas around us are still being built, will the treatment last?

While building continues around you the outside pressure stays, so we concentrate on sealing your own entrances and treating the perimeter, and we recommend a follow up visit that closes off anything crossing over from the neighbouring sites while they are still at work.
