Cockroach control in Salam Makkah

Salam, the district once mapped as Sharai plan three, sits on the higher ground south of Al-Sharai inside the Haram boundary. It is mostly new multi-storey apartment blocks, and their flats hang off a single vertical drainage stack. That is why a German cockroach in your kitchen may be breeding two floors away, and why treating one flat alone rarely holds.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Salam

In Salam's apartment blocks, the first cluster we find is often not inside a flat at all, but behind the shared water meter in the stairwell, where every unit's pipe meets. The method is set out in full on the full Cockroach control page.

The first reason

New blocks, one shared stack

Most of Salam is recent multi-storey housing, and every flat drains into one vertical stack. A German cockroach travels up and down inside that column, so an infestation in your kitchen is rarely just yours. We treat the flats on a stack together, not one door at a time.

The second reason

Building work still going on around it

Salam is still filling in, and the digging and construction next door disturb American cockroach colonies living in open ground and uncovered drains. Pushed out, they head for the nearest occupied building and come in through floor drains and under external doors. Those entry points are where we concentrate.

The third reason

Flats that change hands often

Being inside the Haram boundary, much of Salam houses workers whose tenancies turn over, and second-hand furniture moved between units can carry egg cases hidden in its seams. So when we inspect a flat here, we check the used pieces coming in, not just the walls and skirting.

Before treatment

The species and the place decide the method

Salam sits on rocky, elevated ground east of Makkah, and its drainage network was laid recently as the plan filled in. New pipe runs leave expansion joints and gaps around every penetration, and those warm, damp voids are exactly where cockroaches settle.

A small light brown German cockroach

German cockroach

Thrives in the kitchens of Salam's new blocks and moves between flats through the shared vertical stack, so it can appear in yours from a source next door or two floors up.

A larger dark cockroach on a wooden surface

American cockroach

The larger one comes up from the recently laid drainage and its floor openings, and its numbers rise near the open building sites that still ring the plan.

An oven and gas hob beneath wooden shelving

Appliance heat

In a crowded flat it shelters behind the fridge and oven where the warmth never drops, and that corner is where we start an inspection in Salam.

A kitchen with a fridge; the gap behind it is a classic nest

The gap behind the fridge

The narrow gap behind the fridge, close to a drain outlet, holds warmth and moisture at once, which makes it the first nest we look for in a Salam kitchen.

A tap carrying water droplets

Water before food

A cockroach can wait for food but not for water, and a slow leak from the new pipework under the sink is enough, so we deal with the damp before we lay any bait.

A dimly lit kitchen at night

What you see at night

What you see at night on the stairwell wall or by the shared meter is only where they forage; the nest sits deeper inside the stack, not where your eye landed.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and identify

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

  2. 2

    Treat the harbourage

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

  3. 3

    Close what can be closed

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.

What cockroach control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed gel bait

In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Targeted spray where needed

On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drain and entry treatment

Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

My flat is clean, but roaches come from the neighbours. What now?

In Salam's blocks, usually yes. The German cockroach travels inside the shared drainage stack and the openings between flats, so the source may be a unit above or below you. We treat the crossing points in your flat and advise coordinating with neighbours on the same stack to close the route.

I just moved into a new building. Where did they come from?

New buildings are not exempt. Cockroaches come in through the drainage before every flat is occupied, then settle in the voids around the fresh pipework. We start at the kitchen and bathroom where the pipes meet, and return to close whatever hatched after the first visit.

Is the building work next door letting them in?

Often, yes. Digging and breaking ground near the Salam plan disturbs American cockroach colonies in the soil and uncovered drains, and they look for shelter in the nearest building. We focus on floor drains and the gaps under external doors, since those are how they get in.

I brought in second-hand furniture. Could it carry eggs?

It can. A German cockroach egg case tucks into the seams of a sofa and the backs of drawers, and it survives the move. When we inspect a flat in Salam, we check the used pieces coming in first, because treating the walls alone leaves the source in place.

My flat is on the ground floor near a drain. Am I more exposed?

A ground-floor flat is closer to the drainage network and its openings, and the American cockroach climbs up from them at night. That is not a certain infestation, but it does make the moisture traps under the sink and around the floor gully the points we close and watch first.

Is treating my flat alone enough in the block?

It eases things, but it can return if the source stays in a neighbouring unit on the same stack. We treat your flat thoroughly and seal the crossing points, and show you the spots a neighbour or the owner should treat so the roaches stop crossing back.

How much does cockroach control in Salam cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Salam.
