Fleas in a ground floor shop crawl up through shared walls, cable channels, pipe runs and floor gaps into the flat above it. Treating the shop alone leaves the flat above exposed to reinfestation from below, and treating the flat alone leaves an open pathway from the shop.

Moisture from the walkway and street

Al Yamamah walkway and Quraish Street shed moisture and dust into the parking areas and gaps between shops. Water seeping from irrigation and street cleaning reaches the carpet base on upper floors through the floor line.

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

Yes, fleas hide easily in used textiles, clothing, upholstery and stored goods for weeks. If you see fleas in the shop, tell the owner, they are only metres from your flat.

Do fleas from the shop crawl up through electrical channels and floor gaps?

Yes, fleas crawl through any opening, including the gaps around cables, water pipes and conduits. This is why flats with no pets sometimes have fleas from the shop below.

Visitors from the walkway may carry fleas from their own homes in their clothes?

Possible, especially during visiting seasons. Fleas hide in clothing and bags and move from place to place without us noticing them arrive.

After treatment, fleas returned from the shop below. What do we do now?

Contact us to return and retreat. Try to persuade the shop owner to treat. Repeated treatment becomes necessary if the source below remains infested.
