Flea control in Al Zahra Makkah

Al Zahra is a densely built residential district north of the Grand Mosque near Al Utaybiyah, apartment blocks so closely packed on a small area that they barely allow public parks. Flats are cramped, passages tight, and fleas move easily between adjoining units. Treatment here needs collective coordination because every flat is connected to its neighbour.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Zahra

Al Zahra is a relatively old neighbourhood still growing, and its flats are so tightly adjoined that fleas move from one to another with ease. The method is set out in full on what Flea control involves.

The first reason

Tightly packed towers and adjoining units

Flats in Al Zahra sit side by side with no gap, and shared walls contain voids and cracks. Fleas climb shared walls and cross from one flat to the next.

The second reason

Shared passages and dark tight stairwells

Passages and stairs in Al Zahra are narrow, dark and damp, providing shelter for fleas and stray animals. Treatment must include these communal voids.

The third reason

Stray animals and street-level waste

Narrow streets, waste accumulation and loose animals are a continuous flea source for the district. Ground-floor flats and street proximity mean greater exposure.

Landmarks of Al Zahra

Al Zahra is accessed via Al Mansour Bridge from the east, and treatment typically starts from Umm Al Qura Road where we move through Hussain Arab Street towards Al Hindawiyah to assess stray animals around the district.

The resting places map the infestation

A densely built residential district between Umm Al Qura Road and Al Mansour Street, bounded by Al Diyafah to the north, Al Hindawiyah to the south, Al Ghazza to the east and An Nuzhah to the west, closely packed apartment towers crossed by Hussain Arab Street and Abdullah Arif Road.

The base of the carpet

Carpets in closely adjoining flats hold flea colonies before they cross shared walls into neighbouring units.

An empty pet bed on a room floor

Where the animal sleeps

Stray animals shelter in dark tight passages and stairs, depositing fleas on foundations and shared walls.

A fine toothed comb on a white towel

Flea dirt

Flea dirt accumulates in carpet seams and mats covering shared passages and staircase treads.

The underside edge of a fabric sofa

Furniture edges and upholstery

Furniture edges and bedding in an adjoining flat may harbour fleas that travel to your flat through shared walls.

Gaps between wooden floor boards

Joints in a hard floor

Floor joints and stone or marble in passages trap fleas moving between flats and between floors.

Damp shaded soil beneath shrubs

Damp shade outdoors

Damp shade in dark narrow passages and tight corners provides permanent shelter for adult fleas between visits.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

  2. 2

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

  3. 3

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

  4. 4

    Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

What flea control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    Confirmation before anything is applied

Telling a flea bite from the alternatives, and fixing the resting places and the centre of the infestation.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Carpet base and floor line treatment

A residual and a growth regulator worked down into the pile and under furniture edges, not laid across the visible surface.

  • A metal floor drain

    Shade and damp outdoors

The shaded patches by entrances and around drains and taps, the only ground outside where larvae survive.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

The source when there is no pet

Stray cats sheltering under an outside stair, or rodents in the voids, each handled on a different footing.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    The vacuum schedule and aftercare

When to vacuum, how to empty the machine, and why the carpet is not steam cleaned afterwards. Ventilation time we give you on the call, because it changes with the product and the space.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A follow-up timed to emergence

A date about two weeks on, timed to the pupae leaving the cocoons, and re-treatment of any room where fresh bites are still starting.

What is different about Al Utaybiyah Sub-Municipality

Al Utaybiyah sub municipality covers the old districts north of the Grand Mosque: the hillside quarters of Al Hajun, Al Utaybiyah and Al Bayban, Al Zahir and Al Shuhada at the northern entrance, and the newer Al Zahra, Al Diyafah and An Nuzhah westward. Its building stock is among the oldest in Makkah, stone houses on the hills, packed apartment blocks and sewers decades old, threaded with crowded markets like the Utaybiyah souq and furnished flats that fill in the pilgrim seasons. Wadi Al Zahir and Wadi Al Tanim carry storm water through it, and industrial workshops line Hajj Street.

Questions about this district

Our flat is surrounded by other flats. Must we treat the whole district?

Not necessarily, but treating the directly adjoining flats helps greatly. If we treat one flat only, fleas return from neighbours.

The passage between flats is damp and smells. Does this worsen fleas?

Yes, moisture, shade and waste in passages create ideal flea habitat. Clean the passage and ensure ventilation before treatment.

Do fleas travel through shared sewerage pipes between flats?

Yes, fleas climb pipes easily. Sealing gaps around pipes before treatment helps stop their passage.

Our flat is near the main street. Do stray animals enter?

Yes, flats near the street are more at risk from stray animals and street insects.

A month after the second visit fleas returned. How do we stop them?

In a district like Al Zahra, fleas may return from neighbouring flats that were not treated. Ask neighbours to treat their flats too.

Does cleaning passages and streets help prevent fleas?

Yes, cleaning shared areas reduces flea habitat and supports treatment inside the flats.

How much does flea control in Al Zahra cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Zahra.
