Fly control in Maqam Makkah

Maqam is a recent northern extension in Al Sharai between Usaylah and Al Khadra, with new apartment buildings and mosques but many vacant plots climbing towards the Al Shifa hills. Building continues in scattered areas. Flies here come from damp wadis and excavations more than heavy food waste.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Maqam

Flies in Maqam spike after rain when wadis fill with water and silt. The problem persists long after the ground dries. The method is set out in full on the full Fly control page.

The first reason

Three wadis, seasonal floods and persistent silt in soil

Wadi Mudarraja, Wadi Al Sharai and Wadi Al Mughammas carry flash floods right after rain, then dry leaving silt and moisture in the soil. This seasonal lingering dampness creates rich fly breeding ground for months after rain. Nothing like a district on dry elevated ground.

The second reason

Many vacant plots and open excavations

Large vacant plots climb towards the Al Shifa hills. Scattered fill and cut sites dot the ground. These exposed areas fill with water after rain and stay damp long, providing perfect fly and mosquito habitat. Nothing like a fully built district.

The third reason

Ongoing building and shops and restaurants on the Taif Road

The Taif road has shops, restaurants and warehouses. Ongoing construction brings workers and machinery bringing food waste, adding to flies beyond the wadi dampness.

Where the flies are actually coming from

A young development district between Usaylah and Al Khadra with new buildings and large vacant plots, old wadis and damp soil after rainfall.

A house fly on a window pane

House fly

House flies breed in damp gaps and damp wadis around Maqam apartment blocks.

A metallic green fly on a wooden surface

Blow fly

Blow flies come from silt and organic matter in the three wadis and vacant ground.

Over-ripe fruit in a wooden bowl

Fermenting residue

Fermenting residue builds in damp vacant plots and gaps between wadis and buildings.

Waste bins standing on concrete

The bin base

Bin bases in Maqam stay damp if set near vacant ground or a nearby wadi. Seasonal moisture affects them.

A floor drain grate set in tiling

The film inside a drain

Old drainage in the wadis holds permanent dampness and silt, ideal wild fly habitat.

A metal service door on a building exterior

The service door and its mesh

Service doors and mesh matter but have limited effect if the main fly sources are outside in the wadis.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and trace the source

We trace the flies back to their medium: waste and the bin area, floor traps, drain runs and any standing organic wetness, and we identify the species from its size, its flight and where it settles.

  2. 2

    Treat the breeding medium

Washing and scouring bin bases and floor traps, and a foam that treats the film inside the pipe, because removing the medium is the only thing that stops production.

  3. 3

    Treat the resting surfaces

A fly spends most of its time settled on ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, and that is where the residual and the bait go, not into the air.

  4. 4

    Proofing and the follow-up

We close the ways in and sort out the screens and the doors, then come back on a date matching the emergence of the pupae that were already in the medium on the first visit.

What fly control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A source tracing inspection

The species, the breeding medium and the route in, established before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drains and floor traps

Scouring the film stuck inside the pipe and treating it with foam, which is where drain flies come from and almost nowhere else.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Residual on the resting surfaces

Ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, kept off food preparation surfaces.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Fly bait in protected positions

An attractant bait set at bin areas and service entrances, out of reach of children and pets and away from food.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and what needs a screen, an air curtain or a different waste routine.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date matching the emergence of the pupae, and re-treatment of any source still producing.

What is different about Al Sharai Sub-Municipality

Al Sharai is the eastern growth front of Makkah along King Faisal Road and the Taif road. Settled quarters sit beside recently renamed schemes where plots are still vacant and buildings are going up, so construction sites, fill and open excavations lie next to occupied homes. Wadi channels such as Wadi Mudarraja, Wadi Al Sharai and Wadi Al Mughammas carry flash floods after rain and dry out to damp silt, while dust blows off the open hills. Roadside shops, restaurants and warehouses line the Taif road, and to the east the area shades into villages, palm farms and springs.

Questions about this district

Are the three wadis the main fly source in Maqam?

Yes, the wadis and the moisture and silt they carry are the main source, especially right after rain.

Is treating a single flat sufficient or must the whole block be treated?

Flat treatment alone is not enough in Maqam because flies come from wadis and vacant ground. Block and surroundings must be treated together.

Is pre-season treatment enough on its own?

Pre-rain treatment helps but is not enough alone. Rain brings a fresh fly wave from the wadis.

Will finishing construction eliminate flies automatically?

Building will reduce flies but not eliminate them. The wadis remain a seasonal fly source forever.

Do villas near the Al Shifa hills suffer more fly pressure?

Yes, villas near hills and vacant ground have more pressure because fly sources are near them.

Are shops and restaurants on the Taif Road a major fly source or minor?

A minor but important one. The wadis are the main source, but shops and restaurants worsen it.

How much does fly control in Maqam cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Maqam.
