Gecko control in Al Aziziyah Jeddah
Al Aziziyah is a dense mixed district where restaurants, shops and food stores occupy the ground floors and residential flats sit directly above them. Sea humidity is high and the ageing plumbing in these older blocks creates damp routes for insects, which attract geckos to the walls and ceilings of your flat every night because the food that draws them is directly beneath you.

Why they keep coming back in Al Aziziyah
Geckos in Al Aziziyah flats never stop arriving as long as the restaurant below operates at night, its lights attracting insects and drawing geckos to hunt on your walls and ceiling. The method is set out in full on Gecko control in detail.
Shops below bring insects and geckos with them
Restaurants and cafes operating at street level leave food debris on floors, walls and roof gutters, attracting cockroaches, ants and flies. The gecko comes for the insects, not for your flat. Treatment focuses on sealing every passage from the shop below into your space and killing the gathered insects first, so the gecko has no reason to enter.
Sea moisture lodges eggs in wall cracks
The Red Sea's humidity keeps the cracks and voids in walls and ceilings constantly damp, and geckos cement their eggs into these moist places because moisture preserves them. Treatment must reach these damp zones, drying them out and sealing them so eggs cannot be laid, which may require more than a single spray.
Old pipework and shared entries let them through
The older buildings in Al Aziziyah have aged internal plumbing and drainage, and the shared entry used by dozens of residents collects food crumbs and insects by the hundred. The gecko waits on the lit ceiling of the shared entry and enters through pipe penetrations and gaps around the meter before climbing to the upper floors.
The character of Al Aziziyah
Mixed district: shops at street level with homes above them
A mixed district means your flat does not stand alone: the shop below operates as a restaurant, cafe or food outlet, drawing hundreds of thousands of insects every night, and geckos arrive hunting them.
The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method
Sea humidity is high throughout Al Aziziyah, ageing drainage and plumbing runs through the older buildings, and restaurants, cafes and food retailers pack Makarona Road and the surrounding streets with activity and waste.
The house gecko
Geckos in Al Aziziyah come at night to hunt insects gathered on walls beneath lights, and the apartment blocks above shops provide many entry routes from ground level upward.
Outdoor lighting
Outdoor lighting around the restaurants and shops on Makarona Road draws insects by the million every night, and geckos station themselves on lit walls waiting for prey.
Window mesh
Window mesh and window frames in flats above shops are often not sealed tight, and gaps around air-conditioner sleeves allow insects and geckos to pass directly from the shop into your home.
The air-conditioner sleeve
Air-conditioner sleeves in Al Aziziyah flats are often close to street level or the shop space, and geckos use them as a bridge to climb to your ceiling.
Meter boxes and electrical panels
Electrical meter boxes and panels in older buildings sit in shared corridors or near the shop entrance, and geckos hide and breed in and around them before climbing upward.
The garden and the irrigation
Courtyard gardens or front areas of apartment blocks are sometimes irrigated and gather small insects, and geckos hunt these zones before entering the building at all.
How we work
-
1
Inspect at night and find the source
We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.
-
2
Treat the food source
We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.
-
3
Close the openings and clear the crevices
We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.
-
4
The follow-up visit
We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.
What gecko control includes
-
A recorded night inspection
Wall faces, lighting, entry points and egg sites, all established before anything is applied.
-
Treating the insects on the walls
Targeted treatment around lighting, windows and the building perimeter, because the food is what keeps it there.
-
Placed repellent in the crevices
Behind panels, in wall joints and at the ceiling-void entries, where it sits out the day.
-
Screening vents and drain openings
Shafts, vents and the condensate outlet, which are entry points nobody looks at.
-
Aftercare instructions
Ventilation, what to cover, and the change to the outside lighting that stops the insects gathering again.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.
What is different about Al Aziziyah Sub-Municipality
The Al Aziziyah sub municipality takes in the established heart of northern Jeddah, from the Al Hamra corniche on the Red Sea to Al Rehab east of King Abdullah Road. Its buildings date back decades, mostly mid rise apartment blocks over shops and closely packed restaurants along Makarona Road, Tahliah Street and Palestine Street, alongside villas and hotel towers near the shore. Sea humidity is high in the western districts, plumbing and drainage in the older blocks are ageing, and food outlets, hospitals and irrigated gardens are everywhere, conditions that favour cockroaches, ants, mosquitoes and rodents throughout the year.
Questions about this district
Why does the gecko keep coming back to my living room window?
The light you leave on attracts insects to your glass, and the gecko comes to hunt them. If your window faces the street or the courtyard where the shops are, you are close to the food source. Sealing the mesh and removing the indoor insects stops them returning.
Should I pay to have the entire shop below treated as well?
No full treatment of the shop is needed. Seal the penetrations that connect shop to flat: pipe sleeves, electrical conduit, air-conditioner feed and window gaps. When your flat is treated, the insects on your walls end, so the gecko has no reason to climb up from below.
Will treating just my flat stop geckos from my neighbour's flat next door?
If your neighbour also has geckos, they will come through the shared wall. Thin cracks between flats are invisible but gecko-sized. Single-flat treatment stops those coming in from outside and below, but your neighbour needs treatment too, or geckos will keep crossing.
Does the sea humidity mean geckos will always come back to Al Aziziyah?
Humidity brings insects back quickly, not geckos themselves. If you seal the entry points and stop new insects arriving, geckos will not return soon. Drying out cracks and soft spots helps, and repeated treatments maintain the balance you achieve on day one.
Does leaving the balcony light on at night attract geckos directly to my flat?
Light attracts small insects first, and the gecko comes for them. If you leave the light on and your mesh is open, insects enter the flat and gather on walls and ceiling, and the gecko follows. Turning off unnecessary lights makes a real difference.
Will treating my flat stop geckos coming up from the restaurant directly below?
The restaurant will always attract insects and waste. But if you seal every connection down to the shop and treat your flat completely, the gecko will not enter from below. Insects on the restaurant walls will not reach your walls, and the gecko will find no route in.
