Wadi Uranah runs through Al Qararah Al Jadid and carries flash floods after rain. Even on dry days, the wadi bed retains moisture from groundwater seepage. This humidity creates ideal conditions for small insects. Geckos are drawn to the moisture and insects from the wadi towards new homes.

Al Qararah Al Jadid is a large scheme with much vacant land between first phase plots. This land provides protection, cracks and shelter for geckos. When plot owners begin work, they first prepare their ground, expanding and irrigating. This draws geckos from vacant land towards the new home.

Neighbouring projects supply gecko migrants

Al Mudaa Al Jadid and Shaab Amer Al Jadid are other projects very close by. These may already have established gecko populations or be undergoing active development. Geckos migrate from project to project according to conditions. Al Qararah Al Jadid as a new attractive project draws migrants from neighbouring sites.

The district sits on flat open ground close to Jabal Labanah, with very recent development. Wadi Uranah provides high moisture especially after rain, and proximity to other projects means gecko sources lie very close by.

How we work

Inspect at night and find the source

We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.

Treat the food source

We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.

Close the openings and clear the crevices

We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.

The follow-up visit

We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.

Does Wadi Uranah mean the gecko problem will never end?

The wadi provides moisture but insect arrivals are temporary. Treatment removes current residents and a second visit two weeks later kills eggs. Once building completes and vacant land is built on, pressure falls.

Does flat open ground protect against geckos?

Flat open ground means no natural shade or protection. But excavation and levelling provide moisture. Geckos hide in small cracks and rubble. A new home beside vacant land becomes the first shelter they find.

Is preventive treatment of a new villa essential on move in day?

Yes, urgently. New homes at an active development site receive geckos from day one. Preventive treatment at occupation stops early settlement. Follow with retreatment every two weeks through the first year.

Do nearby neighbouring projects increase gecko pressure?

Yes. Al Mudaa Al Jadid and Shaab Amer Al Jadid are very close. Geckos may migrate from these projects towards Al Qararah Al Jadid if it is more developed or has higher moisture.

When will we need a second treatment in Al Qararah Al Jadid?

First treatment removes current residents. Second treatment two weeks later is necessary when eggs hatch. After that, retreatment every two weeks while development is active.

Does nearby Jabal Labanah provide shelter or increase the problem?

The hill provides natural hideouts for geckos. But the hill sits some distance from residential plots. Real pressure comes from vacant land and the wadi beside homes.
