Mosquito control in Al Aziziyah Makkah

Al Aziziyah lies on the pilgrims' route to Mina about six kilometres from the Haram. Hotel towers and markets and coach parks fill it, with the Mahbas Al Jinn bus station and the old Umm Al Qura University campus marking it out. Congestion peaks in Ramadan and Hajj. The massive hotels, dense markets, late night restaurants and the coach parks all provide steady standing water and a continuous food source.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Aziziyah

Massive hotels and many coaches and markets produce standing water in large volumes and drainage strains under the congestion. The method is set out in full on how we approach Mosquito control.

The first reason

Massive hotels are huge water sources from air conditioners, restaurants and bathrooms

Al Aziziyah has very large hotel towers that hold thousands of people. Restaurants, bathrooms and units produce water in very large volumes. This water pools in voids below floor level, in drains and around the hotel perimeter. Voids and drains are many and in some places drainage is old.

The second reason

Bus station and car parks collect rainwater and wash water

Mahbas Al Jinn is a large bus station with extensive car parks. Cleaning and water from coach washing collects in low spots. Rainwater drips from coach roofs and the station itself. These open and dark areas are a very complex environment.

The third reason

Dense markets and many restaurants provide endless food and water

Al Aziziyah has very dense commercial markets and restaurants and cafes open day and night. Water from markets and restaurants drips into open drains and voids below floors. Food from the market and restaurants is unlimited and water is constant.

Standing water and shade decide the method

A commercial zone on the main road out to Mina away from Makkah's centre, with massive hotel towers, busy markets and a major bus station, congestion peaks in the pilgrimage seasons.

The daytime biter

The daytime biter in Al Aziziyah hides through the day in voids below floors, open drains, openings around air conditioners and parked coaches.

The one that comes out after sunset

After sunset the mosquitoes emerge from voids and drains and gather around restaurant lights, shops, hotel lights and the parked buses.

Air-conditioning condensate

Air conditioner discharge from massive hotels drips onto roofs and voids between them and the station and shops.

The tank and its openings

Hotel water tanks are sealed but water from drains, restaurants and coaches collects in voids.

Potted plants in a garden standing in saucers

Garden containers and irrigation

Gardens or irrigation are less common in Al Aziziyah. Most standing water comes from hotels, markets, restaurants and the station.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and map the water

We walk the perimeter, the roof, the garden, the meter chambers and the condensate runs, record everything that holds water, and read the species from the breeding site and the time of biting.

  2. 2

Remove the water that can go

Empty, invert, cover: saucers, containers, old tyres and roof gullies. Every point that disappears is a treatment that never needs repeating.

  3. 3

Larval treatment, then the resting surfaces

Water that cannot be drained is treated so the larva never completes, then a residual goes under planting, beneath outdoor furniture and along low shaded walls.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the generation that was in the water on the first visit has completed, review every point we recorded and re-treat where needed.

What mosquito control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded water survey

Roof, perimeter, garden, meter chambers and condensate lines, written down before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and covering the sources

Emptying what can be emptied, draining what can be drained, and covering what has to stay full.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

Larval treatment for the water that stays

For ground tanks, inspection chambers, water features and any permanent water that has to remain.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A residual on the resting places

Under trees and shrubs, beneath outdoor furniture and on shaded walls, where the adult sits out the day.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What stays inverted, what gets covered, which openings need mesh, and when watering goes back to normal.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, with every recorded water point reviewed and re-treated if the water came back.

The character of Al Aziziyah

Commercial area: offices, showrooms and small stores

A massive commercial zone on the pilgrims' road with huge hotel towers, dense markets and a central bus station. Standing water from all these sources pools quickly and congestion in the seasons makes treatment very complex.

Questions about this district

The massive hotel tower has hundreds of guests and restaurant water is very heavy. How do we treat this?

Treatment focuses on voids below floors, drains and openings around air conditioners and restaurants. We do not spray bedrooms but shared passages and areas below floor level must be treated deeply before Hajj season.

The bus station is next to our hotel. Does water from it cause problems?

Yes, the bus station is a very large water source. Cleaning water, lubricant and rainwater collects in low spots. This water is very close to the hotel and neighbouring flats. We must treat the station perimeter and voids between it and the buildings.

The commercial market is very large with many restaurants. Is that the main mosquito source?

Yes, the large market is a major source. Water from markets, restaurants and shops drips into open drains and voids. Treating the market and voids around drains is very important.

In Ramadan and Hajj the hotel is completely full and the station is very congested. Does treatment work?

Treatment weeks before the season greatly reduces mosquitoes. Focusing on voids and drains and areas that are not cleaned regularly helps. Another treatment during the season may be needed if mosquitoes increase.

Open drains in the markets and station are always blocked. How do we treat?

Blocked drains must first be cleared. After clearing we treat the drain openings and voids around them. This standing water in drains is a very fast breeding environment.

Does treatment differ in Al Aziziyah because it is far from Makkah centre?

Distance from Makkah centre means markets and hotels are less dense than the centre but the huge hotels, the station and the markets add complexity. Treatment focuses on large voids and open drains.

How much does mosquito control in Al Aziziyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Aziziyah.
