Mosquito control in Al Rawabi Jeddah

Al Rawabi is a mixed district in south Jeddah where apartment blocks and small hotels sit directly above dense shops, parked cars and restaurants that front Old Makkah Road. Mosquitoes hide in the gaps between ground floor shopfronts and upper flats, and air conditioner water drips onto surfaces, stairs and the narrow voids between the buildings.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Rawabi

Ground floor shops receive mosquitoes through narrow alleyways and gaps between units, and upper flats suffer from moisture and water pooling on roofs and shared surfaces. The method is set out in full on what Mosquito control involves.

The first reason

Ground floor shops are the daytime refuge

Al Rawabi's shops are in permanent shade with poor ventilation and cracks between walls that let mosquitoes move freely in and out. Water in cleaning basins, spaces under sinks and trapped moisture create an ideal breeding ground. The adults sit on the walls and dark ceilings through the day.

The second reason

Shared stairways spread it through the building

Dozens of flats sharing a stairwell mean one flat's mosquitoes reach your neighbours with ease. Ventilation gaps between units and ageing doors turn every entrance into a passage. A single untreated flat or shop stairwell keeps feeding the whole building.

The third reason

Air conditioner water pools on shop gutters and voids

In Al Rawabi, units drop condensate straight onto the gutters and narrow gaps below shop level and between adjacent shopfronts. This water does not dry quickly because shade is permanent and air flow is poor. Residual treatment has nowhere to work if the water keeps pooling.

Landmarks of Al Rawabi

In Al Rawabi we work from Old Makkah Road where the shops and upper apartments are densest, then move to Bin Laden Road to check drainage and voids around the smaller hotels. Work splits between treating shop passages and shared stairways, then the individual flats above them.

Before treatment

Standing water and shade decide the method

Closely packed apartment and commercial buildings along Old Makkah Road and Bin Laden Road, with a small neighbourhood park and several mosques serving a dense population in humid maritime air from the port.

A mosquito resting on a green leaf

The daytime biter

The daytime biter in Al Rawabi spends the day hidden in shop darkness and gaps around air conditioner units and between partition walls, not on exposed surfaces.

A drainage grate over dark standing water

The one that comes out after sunset

After sunset the mosquitoes climb from shops and stairwells to the flats where lights and people are, gathering on walls and ceilings before they search for skin.

An outdoor air-conditioning unit fixed to a building wall

Air-conditioning condensate

Air conditioner condensate drips onto gutters and tight spaces between shopfronts, and this warm water does not dry quickly enough in permanent shade and poor air flow.

Water storage tanks on a building roof

The tank and its openings

The tank on the roof may be a source if its openings stand open, but moisture from units and shared drainage is the larger problem in this mixed space.

Potted plants in a garden standing in saucers

Garden containers and irrigation

Small neighbourhood gardens like Bin Laden Park are watered regularly but irrigation in Al Rawabi is at the edge of the district. Inside the shop spaces and flats the standing water comes from units and leaking pipes.

Dense shrubs along a shaded garden wall

The shade it rests in

Mosquitoes in Al Rawabi hide in the shade of voids below surfaces, gaps between walls, closed stairwells and dark shop interiors, not in exposed trees and planted areas.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and map the water

We walk the perimeter, the roof, the garden, the meter chambers and the condensate runs, record everything that holds water, and read the species from the breeding site and the time of biting.

  2. 2

Remove the water that can go

Empty, invert, cover: saucers, containers, old tyres and roof gullies. Every point that disappears is a treatment that never needs repeating.

  3. 3

Larval treatment, then the resting surfaces

Water that cannot be drained is treated so the larva never completes, then a residual goes under planting, beneath outdoor furniture and along low shaded walls.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the generation that was in the water on the first visit has completed, review every point we recorded and re-treat where needed.

What mosquito control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded water survey

Roof, perimeter, garden, meter chambers and condensate lines, written down before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and covering the sources

Emptying what can be emptied, draining what can be drained, and covering what has to stay full.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

Larval treatment for the water that stays

For ground tanks, inspection chambers, water features and any permanent water that has to remain.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A residual on the resting places

Under trees and shrubs, beneath outdoor furniture and on shaded walls, where the adult sits out the day.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What stays inverted, what gets covered, which openings need mesh, and when watering goes back to normal.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, with every recorded water point reviewed and re-treated if the water came back.

What is different about Al Jamiah Sub-Municipality

Al Jamiah sub municipality spans the older south of Jeddah. Planned districts such as Al Fayha, Al Thaghr and Madain Al Fahd sit beside crowded popular quarters like the Nazlahs and Al Quraiyat, and beside cleared or clearing land in Ghulail, Petromin and Al Thaalibah awaiting redevelopment. Apartment buildings stand close together above dense runs of shops and restaurants along Old Makkah Road and Prince Majid Road. Drainage in the popular quarters is ageing, humid air drifts in from the port and refinery side to the west, and the flat low lying ground holds rainwater in narrow streets.

Questions about this district

The shop directly under us reports mosquitoes. Will they reach our flat?

Yes. Mosquitoes use shared stairwells and cracks between partition walls to move between floors. Treating only your flat leaves the entry point untreated. We need to find where they are breeding in the shop space and cut off their route upward.

The air conditioner water drips onto the shop gutter below. Does that breed them?

Yes. Air conditioners produce warm standing water throughout the day in narrow shaded voids and tight spaces. This water is an ideal breeding site. We have to check how the condensate is routed and redirect it away from the voids and shop spaces.

Do you treat the shop roofs and shared passages to reach them?

In Al Rawabi yes. The mosquitoes that rest on shop roof voids and in the dark passages during the day are the ones that enter the flats after sunset. Treating only the flat leaves the source still active in the passages below.

Can you treat the air conditioners and the shared drainage?

We cannot spray inside units because they run condensate over food and clothes. We inspect the discharge pipes, spaces around them and nearby windows. Shared drainage cannot be fogged but we treat the openings and the voids around them.

The lower floors are very humid and our third floor flat gets mosquitoes too. Is that connected?

The damp air and warmth from the lower floors and shops rise through the stairwells, creating a perfect passage for mosquitoes to climb. Treatment must block this upward movement before it reaches your flat.

They are worse after rain and in the humid months. The shop has open drainage. Is that the problem?

Open shop drainage and poor stormwater clearance make everything worse. Stagnant water in gutters and pooling on floors after rain multiplies the breeding. We treat the drains and surfaces but fixing the water itself requires you to check the shop's drainage path.

How much does mosquito control in Al Rawabi cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Rawabi.
