Mosquito control in Al Taysir Makkah

Al Taysir is a district west of the Grand Mosque filled with tall residential apartment blocks and hotel towers for Umrah visitors and guests. It neighbours Jarwal, Al Zahir and Al Mansour, with multi-storey buildings serving dense populations. Restaurants and shops line Al Taysir Street. Mosquitoes breed in the enormous hotel storage tanks, in the many restaurants' drainage and in shared pipes running vertically through dozens of floors.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Taysir

Hotels do not change their tank water on a residential schedule, sometimes leaving stagnant water for days, creating ideal conditions for breeding. The method is set out in full on our Mosquito control service.

The first reason

Massive hotel storage tanks are a weak point

Every hotel has a huge roof tank filling and emptying on irregular schedules. Water sits stagnant inside for days, waiting for eggs to hatch before the tank empties.

The second reason

Numerous restaurants fill drains faster than they drain

Dozens of restaurants and cafes along Al Taysir Street pour cooking and washout water into shared drains. Water accumulates faster than it can leave, backing up inside the pipes.

The third reason

Long vertical pipes leak at every joint

Pipes running from rooftop tanks all the way to ground level in extremely tall towers leak at their many joints. Moisture seeps from the external walls continuously.

Landmarks of Al Taysir

Work becomes difficult where towers stand hemmed between Al Taysir Street crowded with traders and eateries, and Umm Al Qura Road where streams of pilgrim visitors flow constantly. King Abdulaziz Hospital nearby imposes additional health standards on the work.

Before treatment

Standing water and shade decide the method

The district is crowded with permanent residents and rotating pilgrim visitors. Services and drains are shared and complex. Buildings are extremely tall and tanks are large; pipes are longer than in any other district.

A mosquito resting on a green leaf

The daytime biter

The daytime biter emerges from pipes and cavities between the tall towers where shade is permanent and inescapable.

A drainage grate over dark standing water

The one that comes out after sunset

The one that comes after sunset breeds in hotel tanks and shared drains that release water loaded with eggs every filling cycle.

An outdoor air-conditioning unit fixed to a building wall

Air-conditioning condensate

Restaurant and cafe drainage from Al Taysir Street flows into shared pipes that rise and fall through many floors of mixed use.

Water storage tanks on a building roof

The tank and its openings

Roof tanks on the high towers connect downward through extremely long pipes that leak at every single joint.

Potted plants in a garden standing in saucers

Garden containers and irrigation

Restaurant, cafe and hotel containers fill daily with water and may not be emptied on any regular schedule.

Dense shrubs along a shaded garden wall

The shade it rests in

Permanent shade between tall towers and in the gaps between them makes these the ideal year-round refuge for resting adult mosquitoes.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and map the water

We walk the perimeter, the roof, the garden, the meter chambers and the condensate runs, record everything that holds water, and read the species from the breeding site and the time of biting.

  2. 2

Remove the water that can go

Empty, invert, cover: saucers, containers, old tyres and roof gullies. Every point that disappears is a treatment that never needs repeating.

  3. 3

Larval treatment, then the resting surfaces

Water that cannot be drained is treated so the larva never completes, then a residual goes under planting, beneath outdoor furniture and along low shaded walls.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the generation that was in the water on the first visit has completed, review every point we recorded and re-treat where needed.

What mosquito control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded water survey

Roof, perimeter, garden, meter chambers and condensate lines, written down before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and covering the sources

Emptying what can be emptied, draining what can be drained, and covering what has to stay full.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

Larval treatment for the water that stays

For ground tanks, inspection chambers, water features and any permanent water that has to remain.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A residual on the resting places

Under trees and shrubs, beneath outdoor furniture and on shaded walls, where the adult sits out the day.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What stays inverted, what gets covered, which openings need mesh, and when watering goes back to normal.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, with every recorded water point reviewed and re-treated if the water came back.

What is different about Al Ghazza Sub-Municipality

Al Ghazza sub municipality wraps around the north and west of the Grand Mosque, from Al Shamiyah, Al Qararah and Shaib Amir round to Jarwal and Al Taysir. Large tracts were cleared for the northern expansion and the Rua Al Haram scheme, leaving excavated ground and open construction sites beside ageing blocks that now serve as dense seasonal lodgings in Jarwal and Al Taysir. Old flood paths still fall from Jabal Qaiqaan and Jabal Khandamah towards the mosque, and markets and eateries crowd Al Masjid Al Haram Road and Umm Al Qura Road.

Questions about this district

Do hotel tanks fill and empty on the same schedule as residential ones?

No, hotels fill and drain on irregular cycles based on guest loads. Stagnant water sits in the tank for days waiting for eggs to develop before it is finally emptied.

Do restaurant drains shared with residential buildings affect flats above?

Yes, completely. Drains are shared between floors, so water rises and falls in the same pipes serving both.

Why do mosquitoes drop slowly here even after treatment?

Because the long vertical pipes retain moisture and standing water, and treatment takes longer to penetrate the depth of the piping.

Should hotels be treated separately from the homes beside them?

It might be better, because hotel water cycles are irregular and the hotel may release water harbouring eggs back into the flats.

Does proximity to the Grand Mosque make mosquitoes fewer or worse?

Location does not affect mosquitoes. The problem is the long pipes, many tanks and sheer population density.

How many treatments are needed in one season in this district?

At least three treatments every two weeks, because standing water in the long pipes requires repeated treatment cycles.

How much does mosquito control in Al Taysir cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Taysir.
