Bed bug control in Al Taysir Makkah

Al Taysir is a multi storey district west of the Grand Mosque, with apartment blocks and tall hotel towers for Umrah pilgrims lining Al Taysir Street, which is packed with restaurants and shops. Bed bugs move easily between flats and hotel rooms in the same tower through shared entrances, stairwells and pipes. Pilgrims from many countries arrive carrying the insect in luggage, and constant movement between hotel, housing and the street accelerates spread.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Taysir

In these mixed buildings here, Umrah pilgrims renting flats move constantly between hotel, market and apartment, carrying bed bugs with them. The insect easily escapes from a crowded hotel to a nearby flat, and once established in both, spreads quickly in both directions. The method is set out in full on the full Bed bug control page.

The first reason

Mixed use towers: hotel below, homes above

Several towers in Al Taysir hold hotel rooms on lower floors and residential flats above. Shared internal stairwells, corridors and utilities provide direct routes for bed bugs to move from hotel to home. A privately owned flat can be infested from a hotel in the same building. The insect does not recognise the boundary between commercial and residential space.

The second reason

Restaurants and shops on Al Taysir Street

Al Taysir Street is crammed with eateries, shops and continuous commercial activity. These establishments may shelter diverse pests, and staff and customers may transfer bed bugs from the shop to the flat next door. A restaurant worker returning home in the evening unknowingly carries the insect.

The third reason

Constant movement of pilgrims and visitors

Pilgrims arriving from many countries and cities stay in hotels and rented flats, moving between locations constantly. Guest luggage and clothing carry bed bugs from an infested hotel into a residential flat nearby. A visitor departing a hotel with an infested suitcase may arrive at a neighbouring flat ten minutes later and introduce the insect there.

Landmarks of Al Taysir

Al Taysir is treated according to each tower's location on Al Taysir Street and Umm Al Qura Road. Work focuses on shared corridors and stairwells linking hotel and residential units, and particular attention at sites close to the Grand Mosque and King Abdulaziz Hospital.

Before treatment

The places that decide the treatment

Al Taysir sits west of the Grand Mosque, bounded on the south by Umm Al Qura Road, with dense apartment blocks and tall hotel towers, the main Al Taysir Street crowded with restaurants and shops and services, directly connected to Al Masjid Al Haram Road.

The stitched piping along the edge of a mattress

The mattress seam

Mattress seams in both flats and hotel rooms here may appear clean but bed bugs can transfer into them from an adjoining room or guest luggage.

A wooden bed frame and its slats seen from below

Frame joints and screw holes

Frame joints and screw holes in beds here may shelter bed bugs moving vertically through the building via shared pipes and wall cavities.

An upholstered headboard fixed to a bedroom wall

The headboard and the wall behind it

The headboard and its wall may sit directly against an adjoining hotel room or neighbouring flat, so treatment must address both sides of the shared wall.

What the bedding shows

Bedding in hotels and flats here shows bed bug signs quickly because guests and residents circulate constantly through the building.

A fabric sofa and the seam of its cushion

Sofas and armchairs

Sofas and armchairs in hotel foyers and corridors may be the first harborage when an infested guest's luggage enters the building.

An open suitcase on a luggage rack in a room

Luggage and second hand furniture

Luggage and suitcases left in shared corridors and entry areas may become centres of infestation, spreading bed bugs to multiple flats and the hotel simultaneously.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

  2. 2

    Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

  3. 3

    Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

  4. 4

    Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

What bed bug control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Mattress and base seams, frame joints, the headboard, the skirting and every upholstered piece in the room.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Steam and targeted application

Steam along the seams and edges, and a non-repellent product on the harbourage itself, not on the surfaces you sleep on.

Checked at every visit, they show remaining activity before the bites do.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Laundry, encasement and aftercare

The hot wash and dryer routine, a sealed encasement on the mattress and base, and what must not be carried out of the room.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

A follow-up timed to the hatch

A date set on the hatch, and re-treatment of anything still active.

What is different about Al Ghazza Sub-Municipality

Al Ghazza sub municipality wraps around the north and west of the Grand Mosque, from Al Shamiyah, Al Qararah and Shaib Amir round to Jarwal and Al Taysir. Large tracts were cleared for the northern expansion and the Rua Al Haram scheme, leaving excavated ground and open construction sites beside ageing blocks that now serve as dense seasonal lodgings in Jarwal and Al Taysir. Old flood paths still fall from Jabal Qaiqaan and Jabal Khandamah towards the mosque, and markets and eateries crowd Al Masjid Al Haram Road and Umm Al Qura Road.

Questions about this district

Can bed bugs move from the hotel in the lower floors to the flat above?

Yes, very easily. Shared stairwells, corridors and the main water pipes offer direct routes upward. A privately owned residential flat can become infested from a hotel in the same building, even if the residents have never stayed in a hotel at all.

Must the hotel and residential flats in the same tower be treated together?

Yes, absolutely. Bed bugs move vertically between hotel and homes, so treating one without the other will fail. Complete coordination between hotel and residential units is essential.

Do pilgrims from many countries unknowingly carry bed bugs?

Yes, very likely. Pilgrims may have stayed in an infested hotel before arrival. The insect hides in luggage and travels with the baggage through the lobby and up the stairs into the flat.

Are the restaurants and shops on Al Taysir Street sources of bed bugs?

Moderate risk. Commercial establishments may harbour diverse insects, but bed bugs prefer homes and hotels. Staff working in shops may carry bed bugs from their own homes into the workplace.

Can guest luggage and suitcases transmit bed bugs between flats and the hotel?

Yes, this is a major vector in Al Taysir. A guest's suitcase from an infested hotel left in the building corridor can spread bed bugs to many flats in minutes.

Can a permanent resident in a flat become infested from a temporary hotel in the same tower?

Yes, especially if both share stairwells and corridors. A permanent resident may not discover infestation until weeks after the hotel next door became infested, because the problem was not visible at the start.

How much does bed bug control in Al Taysir cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Taysir.
