Dust into the wall joints and the dry voids, and a targeted band tight against the foundation and around openings, because the material holds longer on a porous surface than on tile.

Close the ways in and remove the prey

A sweep under the doors, sealing where air-conditioning and drain pipes pass through, mesh over openings, and treatment of the cockroaches and insects it feeds on, so the reason to come in goes with them.

The follow-up visit

A scorpion can sit in its harbourage for weeks without moving, so the first pass does not always reach it. We come back to refresh the perimeter band and check what has appeared since.

Are food shops and restaurants downstairs the main insect and scorpion source?

Yes, a primary one. Restaurants provide endless food, and pipes link them to flats above. Treating a flat alone will not stop scorpions returning from active restaurants below.

Is an upper flat protected from scorpions because it is far from the restaurants?

No, pipes provide direct routes. Scorpions climb from ground floor to upper floors easily through pipes and tight gaps in old buildings.

Does temporarily closing a restaurant help prevent scorpions entering the flat above?

It may help briefly, but scorpions may already colonise the pipes and gaps. Treatment must address pipes, shared entry and flat together as one system.

Is treating the residential flat alone enough if an active food shop sits below it?

No. Treatment must be unified. Shared pipes and gaps provide scorpion routes, and flat alone treatment may only suppress activity temporarily.

Does keeping a food shop clean and sealed reduce scorpions in the flat above?

It helps, but does not solve it. Ageing pipes and their wide gaps provide shelter for scorpions even if the shop is clean. Chemical treatment of pipes and gaps is essential.
