The first reason

New foundations not yet fully settled

Recent villas leave small gaps around the base that have not been sealed or filled, and the scorpion finds in them a direct passage to the ground floor rooms. Treating the foundation before the gaps are filled blocks the scorpion's migration route from disturbed soil into the house.

The second reason

Disturbed soil and displaced scorpion colonies

Digging and building work expel scorpion colonies from their underground homes, and they search for new shelter in the nearby villas. Early treatment of the new villa cuts off this escape route before displaced colonies reach it and establish themselves indoors.

Night survey and perimeter inspection

We walk the perimeter after dark with an ultraviolet lamp, which makes a scorpion show up against wall and soil, and we record the harbourage, the ways in and how much prey is present.

Treat the harbourage and the building edge

Dust into the wall joints and the dry voids, and a targeted band tight against the foundation and around openings, because the material holds longer on a porous surface than on tile.

Close the ways in and remove the prey

A sweep under the doors, sealing where air-conditioning and drain pipes pass through, mesh over openings, and treatment of the cockroaches and insects it feeds on, so the reason to come in goes with them.

The follow-up visit

A scorpion can sit in its harbourage for weeks without moving, so the first pass does not always reach it. We come back to refresh the perimeter band and check what has appeared since.

Taybah sub municipality covers the newly built districts of north east Jeddah along Al Haramain Road and Asfan Road. New villas and apartment buildings stand among vacant plots, building sites and half finished subdivisions. Al Hamdaniyah is the oldest and densest part with its markets and shops, while Al Furusiyah, Al Bashair, Al Rahmaniyah, Al Falah and Al Salihiyah are mostly recent. The ground is inland and away from the sea, dry and dusty, rest houses, camps and stables on the fringes draw flies and crawling insects, and constant digging and construction stirs rodents out of the empty plots.

Should I treat the new villa before moving in or after?

Treating before moving in or in the first weeks of occupation works best, because fresh foundations and gaps around pipes offer open routes for the scorpion. After moving, food insects arrive and draw scorpions more strongly.

Do the vacant plots next to the villa increase scorpion sightings?

Yes, vacant plots and building debris and rubble provide natural scorpion habitat, and any digging or development work nearby drives them towards the villas. Keeping boundaries clear and treating the villa perimeter reduces the pressure.

Are the stables and rest houses on the district edges the source of the problem?

Is the gap between one villa and the next a threat to control?
