Why they keep coming back in Al Furusiyah

Large villas have bathrooms and kitchens that are not used every day, so their traps dry out and turn into an open route up from the main drain. We close these ways in before we spray, because otherwise the roach simply returns through a gap you never see.

Appliance heat

New appliances give off steady warmth. The motor of a new fridge or a freshly installed oven offers the German cockroach a warm spot to nest against and to lay its egg cases within reach of food.

A fitted kitchen leaves a warm gap behind the fridge once it is pushed back to the wall, and in these new Al Furusiyah villas that gap is the first place we check.

Questions about this district

Do new villas still get cockroaches even though the building is new?

Yes. A new structure does not keep them out, because they do not grow out of the walls, they arrive with what you bring into the home, appliances, furniture and boxes, or they climb up a new drain that has not been used yet. We find the door they came through first.

Can second hand furniture or a delivered fridge bring them in?

It often does. The German cockroach and its egg cases hide in the corners of used appliances and the folds of cardboard. When you move into a new villa, check the back of every unit before it comes indoors, and tell us if you bought a used kitchen or fridge so we focus the inspection there.

There is a building site next to me, does it affect the treatment?

It does. Digging foundations and moving soil drives the American cockroach out of the ground and toward the nearest occupied home. We do not just treat indoors, we secure the drain and service openings that face the site so we cut off the way it gets in from outside.

Does watering the garden draw cockroaches to the villa?

Irrigation gives the roach the moisture it wants before it even looks for food. Drip lines and planting beds against the outer wall create a damp band at the base of the house. We suggest keeping watering away from the foundation and we treat the outer strip along the wall.

Why do I see roaches in a bathroom we never use?

Because leaving it unused lets the water in the trap dry out, the seal that blocks the drain, so the pipe becomes an open route for the American cockroach to climb up from the main line. Run the taps in these drains now and then, and we will treat and close the opening.

Half my street is still empty villas, does that matter?

It matters. The empty villas and the unbuilt plots around them act as a reservoir where the roach breeds undisturbed, then moves across into your occupied home. That is why we concentrate on sealing the outside entry points, not on the interior alone.
