The rest house is old and the wood stays damp all the time. What do I seal?

Damp wood needs constant care, gaps widen and insects eat into it. We focus on sealing small openings with materials that tolerate moisture, not with wood that will rot.

There is a gap under the outer door and salt corrosion covers the frame. Clean it or seal it?

Clean rust first, then seal the gap with salt and moisture resistant materials such as galvanised iron or marine silicone. Cleaning alone stops rust but not snakes.

I sealed a gap in summer and it opened again in winter. Why?

Humidity, salt and seasonal temperature swings make materials expand and contract. Good materials flex and tolerate movement, but some shrink and leave a small gap behind.

We use the chalet one month per year. Are snakes there all year?

A chalet closed eleven months a year may not house a snake constantly, but warm winters may see snakes move in and stay for weeks before you open the door.

There is a swimming pool by the chalet. Does this attract snakes?

A pool draws insects and frogs that come to drink, and snakes follow them. Keep the pool clean and the foundations dry and bare of plants to reduce the draw.
