Snake control in Thaniyah Makkah

Thaniyah is a rural district on the eastern fringe of Al Sharai well away from the city's dense building. Houses stand scattered on open hilly ground, and snakes here live naturally in the ravines and wadi. They enter homes because small gardens and regular watering provide steady food for rodents and geckos that draw snakes in pursuit.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Thaniyah

Snakes are numerous here in hot and spring months because the ravines and wadi provide a complete natural environment for wildlife. The method is set out in full on our Snake control service.

The first reason

Rural houses and weak foundations

Rural homes in Thaniyah are built by traditional methods with walls cracked and damp year round. The loose sandy soil around the foundation is easy to excavate and snakes dig underneath the wall, entering from beneath the floor level directly into the house.

The second reason

The ravines and natural wadi environment

Wadi Mudarraja and the surrounding ravines form a complete natural habitat for snakes, rodents and geckos. When springs dry in summer snakes hunt for water and food in houses close to the wadi.

The third reason

Small gardens and water seepage

Most rural homes have small gardens or regular ground watering. Seeping water creates damp soil attracting rodents and geckos, and snakes arrive directly in pursuit of them.

The character of Thaniyah

Rural area: farms, open ground and scattered homes

In a rural area, snakes do not arrive by chance: the garden, water and weak walls all invite them. Sealing the foundation from outside is the first line of defence.

Before treatment

What the site tells us before we start

Open hilly ground on both sides of the Makkah to Taif expressway with scattered rural houses around Wadi Mudarraja and ravines fed from the hills. The soil is sandy and the house walls are old and weak.

A shed snake skin lying on dry ground

A shed skin

Shed skin appears around the garden and near water sources close to the house where snakes shelter within plants and undergrowth.

A winding trail across fine sand beside a wall

The track in the sand

Crawl marks in damp soil around the foundation and beneath doorways indicate snakes entering from the ravines and wadi.

Concrete blocks stacked against an exterior wall

Block and rubble piles

Piles of stone and soil and rubble around the house provide shelter and stable temperature refuges for snakes in heat and cold.

A closed metal gate with a visible gap beneath it

The gap under the gate

Gaps beneath foundations and outer walls are large in old rural houses and permit easy entry at ground level.

A burrow opening in dry soil beside a garden

Rodent burrows

Rodent burrows around the garden and house provide direct food sources drawing snakes from the wadi.

A drip irrigation line leaking onto garden soil

A leaking irrigation line

Broken pipes and water seepage from garden watering create ongoing damp conditions around the house foundation.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and locate

We work the perimeter, the garden and the service rooms with a torch and a mirror, reading the tracks, the skins and the burrows to establish whether it is still on site and where it came in.

  2. 2

    Safe removal

It comes out on a hook and tongs into a closed container and is released away from buildings where that is possible, with no chasing it around a room.

  3. 3

Close the routes, take away the shelter

A strip under the gate, sleeves around pipe entries, tight covers on the floor drains, and the blocks and palm fronds moved off the wall line.

  4. 4

Cut the food, then come back

We treat the rodents and the geckos on the perimeter, then return once that activity has settled to check the sealed points and look for any fresh track.

What snake control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded site inspection

Perimeter, garden, service rooms and pipe entries, with tracks and skins recorded before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drains and entries closed

Tight covers on floor drains, sleeves around waste and air conditioning pipe runs, and the weep holes in the boundary wall closed.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Rodent work around the building

Closed bait stations on the rodent runs, because cutting the prey is what makes the site stop suiting them.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Perimeter treatment down the food chain

Insects on lit walls hold the geckos, and geckos feed some species, so we treat the chain from the bottom up.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    A perimeter housekeeping list

What to move off the wall line, how low to cut the ground cover, where the lighting sits, and what to do if you see another one.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date to check the sealed points, the rodent stations and any new track in the sand.

Landmarks of Thaniyah

Houses in Thaniyah sit between Wadi Mudarraja which flows from the north and the expressway to the south. Snakes enter from the wadi side, so sealing work focuses on the eastern and northern walls of the house.

Questions about this district

The house sits in open ground and a snake entered it. How exactly did it get in?

The snake dug underneath the wall on the wadi side or garden side. Weak foundations and loose sandy soil made it straightforward to tunnel under the wall and enter directly.

Does stopping watering and abandoning the garden protect the house from snakes?

Partly yes, but not completely. Snakes may come from the wadi or ravine regardless of whether the house has a garden. The better solution is to seal the foundation and close gaps from outside.

Are the old house walls the main reason snakes show up in rural Thaniyah?

Yes, old walls have cracks and retain damp, and the foundation is weak. However if the house sits well away from the wadi and ravines you may see fewer snakes.

Do snakes come from the wadi and ravines after the rains?

Yes. After rain the floods push snakes and rodents out of the ravines. Snakes hunt for dry places and houses provide exactly that.

What should we do about the gaps around the foundation and outer wall?

Fill the gaps with small stones and strong mortar and seal any cracks with thick silicone sealant. A snake cannot dig through solid material.

Does sandy and hilly ground increase snakes more than settled urban areas?

Yes, sandy and hilly terrain provides a natural snake habitat. However a single house well away from others may see fewer snakes if it is properly sealed.

How much does snake control in Thaniyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Thaniyah.
