Water tank sterilization in Al Wurud Jeddah

Al Wurud is a mixed residential quarter that grew on the site of the old airport, containing villas, apartment blocks and small shops. Tanks are distributed between individual villas and shared buildings, and water needs regular sterilization because mixed tank types may not receive uniform maintenance.

  • Potable-rated materials

Linings and disinfectants cleared for drinking water tanks, not general-purpose products.

  • You get the downtime first

How many hours the tank is out of service, told before we start rather than after we finish.

  • A first-draw flush

We run the first draw off after refilling, and the tank is not handed back until the water runs clear.

  • Ground and roof tanks

Villas, apartment blocks and premises that need a written record of each visit.

Why the job is different in Al Wurud

Tanks here range from small private villa tanks to large shared building tanks, meaning different treatment approaches for each type. The method is set out in full on the full Water tank sterilization page.

The first reason

Villas have separate tanks that are hard to reach

Each villa has its own overhead tank on the roof or in the garden. Tanks are dispersed and distant from each other, making regular sterilization slower and more time-consuming.

The second reason

Apartment buildings have old shared central tanks

Buildings share central tanks on the roof or basement. Old tanks may be rusted and contain deep sediment layers.

The third reason

Pipes feed both villas and buildings on the same street

A single street may contain both villas and apartment buildings served by the same main pipe. Different pressure and consumption patterns affect water quality.

Landmarks of Al Wurud

Access to Al Wurud runs via King Fahd Road and Prince Majid Road as main boundaries. Al Habbash Mosque and Al Wurud Mosque mark geographic centres, and sports pitches and parks show residential distribution.

Fine wet sand seen close up

Sediment on the floor

Sediment in villas is relatively light because consumption is lower, but old tanks may contain construction sand from the original build.

A concrete wall carrying a damp green layer

The slime film on the wall

Algae grows quickly in exposed villa tanks on sunny roofs.

A plastic water tank standing on a rooftop

Light and heat

Pipes in individual villas are short and easy to clean, but apartment building pipes are long and require higher pressure.

A concrete surface carrying fine cracks

The lining and any cracking

Sterilant smell may linger longer in large building tanks.

A metal cover over a water tank opening

The lid and the openings

Bacteria multiply quickly in shared tanks due to higher occupancy and continuous use.

A glass of water on a kitchen counter

What shows up at the tap

Water leaks from old tanks are common and may cause loss of sterilant before it completes its action.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and record the condition

We open the hatch and work through what the tank is made of and how big it is, how deep the sediment lies, the state of the lining, whether the lid and the overflow seal, and whether there is a crack that has to be repaired before any sterilizing.

  2. 2

Drain and lift the sediment out

The water goes out, then the silt and sand are lifted off the floor by suction rather than pushed toward the outlet, because pushing them sends them into the house pipework and the heater.

  3. 3

    High pressure wash

Walls, floor, corners and the area around the outlet, until the slime film is completely gone. This is the step that makes the sterilizing after it mean anything.

  4. 4

Sterilize, rinse, then return to service

The sterilizing agent goes onto the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid and is left for its contact time, then we rinse, refill and run the furthest tap until the whole line is clear.

What water tank sterilization includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Material, capacity, sediment depth, the state of the lining, the lid and the overflow, all before any work begins.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and sediment removal

The water out, and the silt and sand lifted off the floor instead of being pushed into the outlet and the house pipework.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    High pressure washing

Walls, corners and around the outlet, until the biofilm that no disinfectant penetrates has gone.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Sterilizing the internal surfaces

A sterilizing agent meant for drinking water tanks, applied to the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid, and left for its contact time.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Line flush and aftercare

Rinse, refill and a flush from the furthest tap, when the water is usable again, and what to change in the filter afterwards.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    The next cycle

We agree the right interval for your tank from how it is filled, how much sun it takes and the condition of the lid.

What is different about Al Sharafiyah Sub-Municipality

The Al Sharafiyah sub municipality runs across central Jeddah from Al Ruwais near the Corniche eastwards through Al Sharafiyah, Al Wurud and Bani Malik to Al Naseem at the Haramain Road. It was among the first areas to grow beyond the old wall, and it is dominated by dense apartment blocks over shops along King Fahd Road and Palestine Street, with old popular quarters, the Bani Malik market, car workshops and storerooms. Ageing buildings, worn drainage and the refuse of restaurants and markets make cockroaches and rodents the most persistent pests, and humidity rises towards the sea.

Questions about this district

Is individual sterilization of each villa tank better than shared treatment?

Yes. Individual sterilization is better because each villa has different needs and pressure and consumption patterns vary.

Why do building tanks need more frequent sterilization than villa tanks?

Buildings consume more water and generate more waste; shared tanks become contaminated quickly from higher occupancy.

Do deep sediment layers in old tanks need special equipment?

Yes. They may need very high pressure or even manual scraping if sediment is hardened.

Does low water level in villas affect sterilization?

It can. If the tank is half empty, the sterilizing agent may not distribute evenly across walls and floor.

How do we handle pressure differences between villas and buildings on the same street?

We control pump pressure and inspect each line separately. Pressure regulators may be needed for different network sections.

Does water quality differ between villas and buildings after sterilization?

It may differ slightly depending on tank distance and pipe length. But after thorough flushing, water is safe and consistent.

How much does water tank sterilization in Al Wurud cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Wurud.
