Ant control in Ajyad Makkah
Ajyad is a district of hotels and rented apartment blocks pressed against the Grand Mosque from the south, alive with pilgrims and Umrah visitors throughout the year. Ants here move between individual units through shared entrances, corridors, wires and pipework that bind together the multiple floors of a single building.

Why they keep coming back in Ajyad
Ants in hotel blocks find opportunity to breed in old foundations and between floors, and moisture from traditional drain pipes supports their presence continuously. The method is set out in full on how we approach Ant control.
Multi storey blocks with shared passages and services
Shared entrances, staircases, electrical conduits and plumbing create easy roads for ants to travel between flats. Treating a single unit solves nothing unless we also treat the passages, the main risers and the building's outer perimeter together as one structure.
Constant turnover of guests and temporary residents
Visiting pilgrims and Umrah visitors arrive with luggage and belongings that may carry ants from elsewhere. Room fridges, food cupboards and tiny kitchen floors become ant stores for both sugar feeders and grease feeders, resupplying the colony.
Ancient foundations and deep structural cracks
Old stone bases and deeply fractured walls offer sheltered nesting far below ground, unreachable by simple spraying. Ants enter from outside at foundation edges and corners, hide in cracks and then climb into the flats above.
Ajyad on the map
Ajyad sits about 0.5 km from Al Hajlah and about 1 km from Al Shubaikah.
Open in Google MapsThe species and the trail decide the bait
Ajyad Street carries continuous visitor traffic, and older apartment blocks contain cracks and gaps in walls and foundations that invite ants in from outside.
The sweet feeders
Sugar feeding ants in Ajyad find their source in hotel kitchens, room stores and individual fridges, and carry bait quickly back to nests in the foundations.
The grease and protein feeders
Grease and protein from food waste in building kitchens and lower channels draw grease feeders strongly, and they breed faster and more aggressively than sugar ants.
The trail and its direction
The trail descends from street level into the foundations, then climbs via pipework and electrical runs to upper flats, spreading through passages and shared entries.
Moisture before food
Moisture from ancient bases and leaking drains sits around the main nest, and ants do not travel far from their water source, so drying the base first weakens them.
The nest outside the building
The primary nest lies in deep foundation cracks and corners near the facade, and may be vast with branches running horizontally into the ground floor apartments.
Winged ants
Winged ants in Ajyad appear seasonally when the nest attempts to expand, and their discovery signals urgent need for treatment before the new brood disperses.
How we work
-
1
Inspect and follow the trail
We follow the line from where you see it to where it enters, and establish the species, what it is feeding on and the moisture keeping the nest close.
-
2
Matched bait placed on the trail
We choose the matrix from the feeding preference and place it on the trail itself, leaving the trail intact so the workers carry it to the queen and the brood.
-
3
Treat the perimeter and close the ways in
An external treatment at the wall base and the openings, and we point out the cracks, pipe entries and any branch touching the building.
-
4
The follow-up visit
We come back once the bait has worked through the nest, check the trail is gone, and look for a satellite nest if a new line has appeared.
What ant control includes
-
Following the trail to its source
Species, entry point and the direction of the nest, established before anything is applied.
-
Bait matched to the colony
Sugar or protein according to what the workers are carrying, placed on the trail rather than near it.
-
An external perimeter treatment
A band at the wall base and the outside openings, with the indoor trail left unsprayed so it keeps carrying bait.
-
Moisture points and entries
Condensate lines, sink surrounds, weep holes and pipe entries, which are what keeps a nest against the building.
-
Aftercare instructions
What not to wipe until the bait has been taken, what to cover, and when normal cleaning can resume.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date to check the nest and re-bait anywhere still active.
What is different about Ajyad Sub-Municipality
Ajyad sub municipality takes in the districts that press against the Grand Mosque from the south and west: Ajyad, Al Hajlah, Al Shubaikah, Al Tandabawi and Al Mansour. Hotels and rented apartment blocks for Umrah visitors stack up along Ajyad Street and Ibrahim Al Khalil Street, with kitchens and restaurants running aday and night in season. Behind them, Al Shubaikah and Al Tandabawi keep narrow old lanes on hillside ground where buildings and drains are ageing, and demolition and construction sites are a constant presence around Jabal Omar and the central zone.
Questions about this district
Does the ant in this block come from a neighbouring hotel?
Sometimes it does migrate from next door, but most of the population lives within the building itself, deep in the foundations and walls. If we treat the exterior and the interior passages together we stop the main source. New ants may enter later only if maintenance slips.
After we treat my flat, will ants return from the adjoining units?
They will if we leave the shared passages, conduits and risers untreated. An ant in the next flat travels easily through these routes. We must treat the passages and the main riser of the building together.
Is treatment safe with so many guests coming and going?
We place a bait that worker ants carry back to the nest, not a spray that drifts. Visitors do not need to leave their flats. We focus on passages, corners and cracks where guests do not go.
Does moisture from air conditioning and showers help ants survive here?
It does, considerably. Water from pipes and damp foundations provide constant drinking. This means treatment must follow moisture sources and bait together, not spray alone.
I see winged ants in the passages. Does this mean the nest is near?
Winged ants appear during mating season, usually at specific times of year. They tell us the nest is active and producing new males and females. This signals that treatment is necessary and urgent before the new generation spreads.
Does the presence of many ants mean poor cleaning in the building?
Not necessarily. Old blocks pressed against the Grand Mosque and close to busy streets attract ants even if spotlessly kept. The problem is old foundations, cracks, moisture and location, not cleanliness alone.
How much does ant control in Ajyad cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Ajyad.
