In a villa kitchen the fridge recess is deep, warm and rarely cleaned, which makes it the quietest spot for eggs to gather out of sight.

Water before food

A roach looks for water first, and in a villa it finds it in the several bathrooms, the laundry room and the garden taps before it ever heads for the kitchen.

Questions about this district

We have a garden and irrigation, does that matter?

Yes. The permanently damp soil and the inspection chambers by the garden are ideal for the American cockroach, and from there it crawls into the ground floor. That is why we treat the garden drains and inspection chambers alongside the inside of the villa.

We just moved into a new villa, where do they come from?

Most often they were carried in, inside the appliances, cartons and furniture that arrived with the move. The German cockroach survives in those goods and shows up weeks later. We check the kitchen and the spots where deliveries were unpacked first, to cut off the source.

There is building work on the next plot, is that the cause?

Digging and demolition on nearby plots turn roaches out of the ground and push them towards the finished villas close by. We cannot stop the site, but we can seal your villa's ways in: the drains, the thresholds and the inspection chambers.

The villa has several floors, do you treat all of them?

We follow the trail rather than blanket every floor. The source is usually the ground floor, near the garden and the drains, and we work up from there. We treat the kitchens and bathrooms on any floor showing activity and tie them back to the point of entry.

We have a driver's room and an outdoor kitchen, are they included?

Yes, and they are often where we start. The outdoor kitchen and the annex room are cleaned less and sit closer to the garden and the drains, so roaches settle there before moving into the main villa kitchen. We treat them as part of the visit.

The majlis bathroom is barely used, does it still need treating?

Yes, and it is one of the most important points. Little use lets the floor trap dry out, which turns it into an open route from the sewer for the American cockroach. We treat it and advise pouring water down the drain now and then to keep the water seal.
