Disinfection in Al Khalidiyah Makkah

Al Khalidiyah is a mixed district in south west Makkah between Al Hindawiyah and Al Shawqiyah with land grant plots and modern apartment blocks, small public gardens and quiet residential streets away from the central noise. The mixed-use nature means shops at street level with homes above them, and varied topography from rocky hills to flat ground creates different contamination environments across the neighbourhood.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Khalidiyah

Residential flats above shops and on land grant plots suffer periodic contamination because the shops below generate odours and organic waste continuously, especially food sellers. The method is set out in full on Disinfection in detail.

The first reason

Mixed commercial spaces emit different types of contaminants

The district contains diverse shops: clothing, food, restaurants and cafes. Each type releases different contaminants: oils and steam from food, dust from textiles, chemical odours from dry cleaners. This variety means disinfection needs a tailored approach based on the dominant contaminant type in that location, not a standard one-size-fits-all treatment. The source of the smell determines how we treat it.

The second reason

Nearby gardens provide damp habitat for insects and mould

Small public parks and green spaces in the district raise humidity and attract insects. These insects enter nearby homes through windows and small openings. Disinfection kills what is inside, but contaminants re-enter from outside rapidly. The answer is a defensive programme around the home perimeter, not treatment of the interior alone.

The third reason

Varied topography means moisture collects unevenly across the district

Land grants on higher ground and rocky areas dry quickly, but flats in low-lying areas sit near where rainwater collects. This means moisture and water-borne contamination vary significantly across the neighbourhood. A uniform treatment schedule may not address the real risk in each location.

Landmarks of Al Khalidiyah

The district is accessible via the Third Ring Road from the north or the Second Ring Road from the south, while Ibrahim Al Khalil Street runs through it connecting the residential areas to commercial hubs. Moving through any of these approaches reveals the neighbourhood's mixed, relatively quiet character.

The touch points

Touch points and surfaces in flats above shops are exposed to oils and vapours continuously, so repeated wiping before disinfection is essential to remove the surface layer of contaminants.

Porous surfaces

Porous surfaces close to gardens absorb moisture and plant odours deeply, requiring higher product concentration and longer contact time than surfaces in drier areas.

The finish itself

Floors in these flats collect different contaminants from below and the sides, and deep initial cleaning removes layers of dust and grease.

The air conditioning unit

Air conditioning units in flats above food shops may draw oily vapours from the shop, so careful cleaning of filters and coils is necessary before general disinfection.

A metal floor drain set into tiling

Floor traps

Floor drains in flats above food businesses need weekly treatment because they are the direct pathway for organic contaminants to enter the flat.

Shared entrances and stairs

Shared stairs and entrances in mixed-use buildings are exposed to contaminants from both shops and gardens, so fortnightly disinfection works better than monthly cycles.

How we work

  1. 1

Walk the space and list the surfaces

We go through the rooms and mark the touch points, the porous surfaces and the finishes, then ask what prompted the call: illness at home, moving into a new place, building work, or a smell that arrived out of nowhere.

  2. 2

Clean what we are about to treat

We take the film of dust and grease off the surfaces that are in scope, so the product reaches the surface itself. This is preparation for the treatment, not general house cleaning.

  3. 3

Apply it, and hold the contact time

Hand work on the touch points, a product matched to each surface, and the surface left visibly wet for as long as that material needs before it is dried off. Cold fogging comes last, for what a cloth cannot reach.

  4. 4

    Ventilate and hand back

We open the place up, rinse food preparation surfaces with water, and tell you when each room goes back into use. We give you that timing on the call, because it changes with the product and the space.

What a disinfection visit includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

A surface and touch point survey

What gets treated, and with what, settled before anything is opened.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Soil off first, then the disinfectant

The greasy film comes off first, then a product that stays wet for the contact time it needs.

  • A metal floor drain

Floor traps and the air conditioning drain

Floor traps, sink outlets and the drain tray, which is where most smells actually begin.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Cold fogging for the space

For upward faces and corners a cloth never reaches, done as the last thing before we leave a room.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Ventilation and use instructions

What gets rinsed with water, what is left alone, and when each room goes back into use.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

A scheduled repeat when it is needed

For shared entrances and places people pass through every day, because a disinfectant leaves nothing behind to stop the next contact.

What is different about Al Misfalah Sub-Municipality

Al Misfalah sub municipality runs downhill from the south of the Grand Mosque through Al Misfalah, Kudai and Al Rawabi to Al Taqwa, Al Hindawiyah, Al Khalidiyah and Al Rusayfah at the third ring road. The northern end is old apartment blocks and pilgrim hotels with restaurants along Ibrahim Al Khalil Street and the huge coach parks at Kudai. The south and west are dense popular districts with countless small shops and unplanned hillside housing, some of it already cleared for redevelopment, giving way to orderly land grant schemes in Al Rusayfah beside the railway station.

Questions about this district

My flat is above a restaurant and the smell is constant. What do you suggest?

The smell enters through drainage and gaps between floors. We recommend disinfecting the flat and restaurant at the same time, and inspecting and sealing gaps between storeys with small plugs. If that is not possible, weekly treatment of the traps and openings reduces the problem significantly.

Humidity in the flat is high because of the nearby garden. Does this affect disinfection?

High humidity slows the drying time of the disinfectant but helps it spread better. The problem is that humidity itself provides ideal conditions for mould and bacteria to regrow after the product dries. We recommend using fans to reduce moisture first, then applying the disinfectant.

The house is near standing water after rain. Does disinfection protect against water-borne bacteria?

Disinfection kills bacteria present, but water-borne bacteria re-enter from the standing water. We recommend draining the water first, then treating the affected areas, with regular follow-up because contamination returns with the next rainfall.

There is a leak. Does moisture reduce how well disinfectant works?

The leak itself brings fresh contaminants continuously, and the disinfectant battles against a moving target. We recommend fixing the leak first, then a deep disinfection, otherwise treatment is only temporary.

How often should a flat in Al Khalidiyah be disinfected?

We recommend monthly disinfection for standard homes, and every three weeks if the flat is above a shop or close to green spaces. A preventive programme works better than waiting until odours appear.

Should the gardens around the district be disinfected or only the homes?

Garden disinfection is outside our scope, but we treat a home with higher concentration if it sits close to damp green space. We also recommend small screens on windows and openings to reduce insects entering from the gardens.

How much does disinfection in Al Khalidiyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Khalidiyah.
