Al Ghazza sub municipality wraps around the north and west of the Grand Mosque, from Al Shamiyah, Al Qararah and Shaib Amir round to Jarwal and Al Taysir. Large tracts were cleared for the northern expansion and the Rua Al Haram scheme, leaving excavated ground and open construction sites beside ageing blocks that now serve as dense seasonal lodgings in Jarwal and Al Taysir. Old flood paths still fall from Jabal Qaiqaan and Jabal Khandamah towards the mosque, and markets and eateries crowd Al Masjid Al Haram Road and Umm Al Qura Road.

Questions about this district

The building is very old and the walls stay damp. Will treatment work?

Yes, but treatment must be deep and thorough. We treat inside pipes, wall cavities and tight corners, and work to improve ventilation and drainage.

Above the suspended ceiling there are insects and rodents. Do they drop down into the room?

Yes, gaps between the structure and suspended ceiling give insects pathways down. Gaps must be opened and treated properly.

Do insects come up from the old well beneath the district?

We lock the rooms in the off season. When should we treat before the next season starts?

The smell may come from damp, mould and dead insects. Treating and airing the room and improving drainage are necessary.

The hotel next door is older than ours. Can its insects cross to us through the walls?

Yes, insects cross easily through shared walls and utility runs. Treatment of shared boundaries and cooperation with the neighbouring hotel is essential.
