The first reason

New pilgrims, luggage and daily transfers

New arrivals enter daily with suitcases carrying fleas from distant countries, and move into housing near your flat. Shared transport shuttles pilgrims between hotels and housing, and fleas travel on clothing and portable furniture. Seasonal density means fresh fleas have reached your neighbourhood this week.

Shared foundations between packed buildings

Al Adl apartment blocks stand wall to wall, and their foundations are shared beneath the floor slabs. Fleas do not die from surface treatment of a flat if they shelter in the voids under shared foundations. Your flat and an adjoining unit may be separated horizontally by twenty metres but their floor voids are continuous.

Jabal Al Nour and ancient pilgrimage paths

Jabal Al Nour stands directly above Al Adl, and old Hajj routes cross near the apartment foundations. Wild animals and rodents living on the hill and the routes carry fleas and descend to the housing footing when foraging. Fleas from the hill enter ground floor homes directly through foundation gaps and openings.

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

Al Maabdah sub municipality climbs from Al Abtah and Al Jumayzah beside the Al Mualla cemetery up through Al Khansa and Rai Adhakhir to Al Adl, Jabal Al Nour, Wadi Jaleel and Qurtubah on the outer ring roads. It mixes hotels and pilgrim housing near the Grand Mosque with old popular houses on hillside passes, new housing schemes on valley floors that carry flash floods after rain, and industrial plots, workshops and warehouses along Al Hajj Street in Qurtubah. Street widening and expropriation leave partly demolished frontages in Al Khansa.

Questions about this district

New pilgrims entered the adjoining housing block, will their fleas reach my flat?

Yes. New arrivals may carry fleas from a foreign hotel or aircraft, and adjoining housing is separated from you by a single wall and shared foundations. Fleas will reach you within two weeks.

The flat below me has pilgrims, will their fleas climb to my flat?

Yes, easily. Fleas climb via shared pipes, floor voids and wall cracks. If the flat below is occupied by new arrivals, treating your flat alone is insufficient.

My flat foundation is very old, does the moisture beneath it protect fleas from being killed?

Yes, absolutely. Old foundations provide constant dampness under the floor, which keeps fleas alive even after the flat surface is treated. Effective treatment requires injecting insecticide under the floor slab itself.

Yes. Wild animals and rodents on the hill carry fleas and descend to the building footings when searching for food. Ground floor homes closest to the hill are most at risk.

How many treatments do I need in a tall block like Al Adl with seasonal pilgrims?

Two consecutive treatments, with the first including your flat, the voids beneath your foundation and shared pipes. After that, one treatment every three months in the high season, and every six months after.

Is treating my flat alone enough if the entire building is infested?

No. In a fully infested building, fleas travel between units via shared foundations and pipes easily. Ask about comprehensive building treatment or at least the voids beneath your own floor slab.
