The district neighbours several plots with old buildings being demolished and empty land awaiting development. Stray animals and feral cats live there and carry fleas. When they pass houses they leave fleas in the external space and boundaries. We treat outer edges and walls with special care if vacant land is close.

The second reason

Rainwater pooling in incomplete schemes lengthens flea cocoon life

Seasonal wadis bring water, and uneven ground in vacant plots hold it. Fleas and cocoons need moisture, so cocoons take longer to develop. The first treatment may not catch all generations, and a third visit one month later may be needed.

Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

The Umm Al Salam sub municipality covers the east and south east of Jeddah along the Old Makkah Road and the Haramain Road. It pairs recently planned districts such as Al Wahah, Al Nakhil and Al Shuruq with popular districts that grew outside formal planning, including Al Harazat, Al Mahamid and Umm Al Salam. The older areas have ageing drainage, unpaved streets and vacant plots where building waste collects, conditions that suit rodents, cockroaches and ants. The newer areas are ringed by half built subdivisions and open excavations.

Questions about this district

Does vacant land nearby bring fleas into the house?

Yes, especially if the plot sits right beside the house. Stray animals live there and pass by the boundary. We treat the wall and outer boundary at high concentration and advise you to seal any gaps.

How many treatments does a district with many vacant plots need?

Three at minimum: two one week apart, then a third one month later. Stray animals return, so regular follow up is essential.

Does sealing gaps around the house prevent fleas?

It helps, but this is not a new house. Even in an older home, repairing cracks and gaps reduces animal entry. But do not expect total prevention without treatment.

Do the vacant plots themselves need treating?

We cannot treat plots without owners. But treating your house's boundary aggressively reduces animal entry.

Does the garden and boundary need separate treatment?

Yes, if you have a villa with a garden. We treat the outer boundary, walls and garden at high concentration in the first two visits.

Do the restaurants on the main road attract fleas to nearby villas?

Yes. Rodents and cockroaches from restaurants carry fleas. If your house is very close to a restaurant or shop, regular treatment every month is recommended.
