Flea control in Al Shubaikah Makkah

Al Shubaikah is one of Makkah's oldest quarters, looking onto the Grand Mosque from the Hazwarah side with narrow alleys and ageing houses beneath Jabal Omar and Jabal Al Sharashif. Fleas inhabit damp walls and deep cracks in the ancient structure. Treatment requires concentrated focus on foundations and joints.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Shubaikah

Alleys are so narrow that natural airflow is blocked, moisture accumulates heavily, and fleas thrive in the stagnant damp. The method is set out in full on our Flea control service.

The first reason

Ancient construction and deep voids

Old walls and foundations hold numerous deep fissures and cracks. Fleas shelter in layers of ancient masonry and remain protected from surface pesticide application.

The second reason

Rising moisture and high groundwater

Groundwater beneath the district is very high and walls stay damp year-round. Fleas and cocoons flourish in the permanent moisture, shortening their lifecycle.

The third reason

Dense population and stray animals

The quarter is crowded and strays move through narrow alleys easily. Fleas spread between houses through shared openings and connecting passages in the tight-built quarter.

The resting places map the infestation

The district sits on damp hillside slopes with high groundwater, and old houses contain constant seepage and numerous foundation voids.

The base of the carpet

Carpet base in ancient houses is saturated with rising moisture from very high groundwater beneath.

An empty pet bed on a room floor

Where the animal sleeps

Stray animals sleep in narrow alley openings beside the house directly. Fleas travel from them into the home.

Flea dirt

Flea dirt accumulates in tight gaps between aged flooring and damp walls.

The underside edge of a fabric sofa

Furniture edges and upholstery

Furniture edges against damp walls provide ideal flea shelter in the continuous moisture.

Gaps between wooden floor boards

Joints in a hard floor

Joints in very old flooring between stones and mortar are deeply cracked. Fleas live in them for years if untreated.

Damp shaded soil beneath shrubs

Damp shade outdoors

Damp shade outside in narrow, closed alleys traps moisture and attracts fleas from stray animals.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

  2. 2

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

  3. 3

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

  4. 4

    Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

What flea control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    Confirmation before anything is applied

Telling a flea bite from the alternatives, and fixing the resting places and the centre of the infestation.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Carpet base and floor line treatment

A residual and a growth regulator worked down into the pile and under furniture edges, not laid across the visible surface.

  • A metal floor drain

    Shade and damp outdoors

The shaded patches by entrances and around drains and taps, the only ground outside where larvae survive.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

The source when there is no pet

Stray cats sheltering under an outside stair, or rodents in the voids, each handled on a different footing.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    The vacuum schedule and aftercare

When to vacuum, how to empty the machine, and why the carpet is not steam cleaned afterwards. Ventilation time we give you on the call, because it changes with the product and the space.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A follow-up timed to emergence

A date about two weeks on, timed to the pupae leaving the cocoons, and re-treatment of any room where fresh bites are still starting.

Landmarks of Al Shubaikah

The district lies between the historic Al Shubaikah Cemetery to the east and the Grand Mosque to the north. Access to homes for treatment runs through the narrow Ibrahim Al Khalil Street, where work proceeds through the tightly packed alleys between adjoining houses.

Questions about this district

Groundwater is very high beneath the quarter. Does this weaken the treatment?

Yes. High groundwater increases moisture and speeds up the flea lifecycle. Treatment may require repeating more frequently than usual to ensure effectiveness in these damp conditions.

Our house is very old and seepage from walls is continuous. Will treatment solve it?

Treatment stops the present fleas. Ongoing seepage may allow re-infestation. Repairing the seepage is important to prevent recurrence after treatment.

The alleys are very narrow and stray animals enter the house from the street. How do we stop them?

Strays are a primary flea source. Sealing openings and cracks is necessary. Treatment alone will not stop continued entry of new infested animals.

Our house touches the neighbour's. Will they bring fleas back to us?

Adjoining and touching houses share voids and cracks. Fleas spread easily between them. Coordinating treatment with the neighbour is important.

Two months after treatment, new fleas appeared from stray animals in the quarter. Did treatment fail?

Initial treatment succeeded. Stray animals carry new fleas. Re-treatment is necessary one month later if strays continue entering the district.

Is the old Al Shubaikah cemetery nearby a source of fleas and animals?

Old cemeteries attract rodents and strays. Fleas may spread from there to nearby houses, especially when the cemetery is very close.

How much does flea control in Al Shubaikah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Shubaikah.
