Flea control in Al Zahir Makkah

Al Zahir is an old district northwest of the Haram, with dense apartment blocks crossed by the Third Ring Road and Hajun Street. Mountainous terrain and Wadi Al Zahir create constantly damp conditions around the area. Treating a block in Al Zahir accounts for old damp foundations and the shared passages connecting many units.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Zahir

In Al Zahir blocks, old foundations hold significant moisture below floor level, and fleas hide deep in foundation cavities rather than on surface areas. The method is set out in full on the full Flea control page.

The first reason

Ancient foundations and persistent dampness

The old district, Jabal Al Zahir and Wadi Al Zahir ensure year-round moisture around the block foundations. Floors and walls absorb ground water, and foundation cavities become ideal flea breeding grounds remote from heat and dryness.

The second reason

Dense blocks and shared passages link many units

Flats are tightly packed within each building, and shared stairs and passages connect dozens of units. Fleas migrate readily between flats through gaps under doors and interconnected walls.

The third reason

Jabal Al Zahir and surrounding roads bring strays

The Third Ring Road and Hajun Street cut through the district, bringing vehicle and stray animal traffic. Jabal Al Zahir itself rises directly above and may harbour wild animals carrying fleas.

Al Zahir sits about 1.5 km from Al Diyafah and about 1.5 km from Al Shuhada.

The resting places map the infestation

Jabal Al Zahir, Wadi Al Zahir and the rugged topography create year-round damp conditions that preserve flea pupae and cocoons deep within foundations and surrounding soil.

The base of the carpet

The carpet base in an Al Zahir flat contains fleas, but the majority of breeding occurs in cavities beneath the old damp foundation around the building.

Where the animal sleeps

Any pet rests in multiple spots, and shared passages and stairs are flea highways from other units throughout the building.

Flea dirt

Flea dirt appears on carpet, but most live fleas hide in ancient foundation cavities and under-floor gaps rather than on surfaces.

The underside edge of a fabric sofa

Furniture edges and upholstery

Furniture edges and upholstery in the flat hold fleas, but reinfestation comes through interconnected walls and from shared passages.

Gaps between wooden floor boards

Joints in a hard floor

Hard floor joints in a newer flat differ from the old block structure, but ancient cavities beneath the floors hold substantial flea populations.

Damp shaded soil beneath shrubs

Damp shade outdoors

Damp shade outdoors under the mountain and wadi harbours wild fleas which may enter the district through large gaps in old foundations.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

  2. 2

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

  3. 3

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

  4. 4

    Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

What flea control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    Confirmation before anything is applied

Telling a flea bite from the alternatives, and fixing the resting places and the centre of the infestation.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Carpet base and floor line treatment

A residual and a growth regulator worked down into the pile and under furniture edges, not laid across the visible surface.

  • A metal floor drain

    Shade and damp outdoors

The shaded patches by entrances and around drains and taps, the only ground outside where larvae survive.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

The source when there is no pet

Stray cats sheltering under an outside stair, or rodents in the voids, each handled on a different footing.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    The vacuum schedule and aftercare

When to vacuum, how to empty the machine, and why the carpet is not steam cleaned afterwards. Ventilation time we give you on the call, because it changes with the product and the space.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A follow-up timed to emergence

A date about two weeks on, timed to the pupae leaving the cocoons, and re-treatment of any room where fresh bites are still starting.

Questions about this district

My building foundation is very old and has moisture underneath. Does that protect fleas?

Yes. Moisture beneath the foundation shelters fleas and pupae safely. Cool damp conditions lengthen their life cycle and promote breeding. Treatment must reach deep into foundation cavities and ancient floor gaps.

Jabal Al Zahir rises directly above the district. Do mountain fleas enter the flat?

The mountain may harbour wild and stray animals carrying fleas, which enter the district through cracks in old buildings. However, most fleas in a flat come from a household pet or from infested neighbours, not directly from the mountain.

New Umrah visitors entered the neighbouring flat. Will their fleas reach us?

Yes. Neighbouring flats easily become infested, and fleas migrate through shared walls and gaps around pipes. If the adjacent flat is infested, fast treatment is needed before fleas spread.

How many treatments do I need in a tall block like Al Zahir with seasonal Umrah traffic?

If the building hosts new Umrah visitors seasonally, you may need repeated treatments every two or three months. Coordinated treatment across the building or at least infested zones is more effective than treating one flat alone.

Is treating only my flat enough if the entire block is infested?

No. If neighbouring flats or adjacent buildings are infested, treating your flat alone will fail. Fleas return from other units and blocks. Neighbours must coordinate their treatment.

The Third Ring Road cuts through the district. Does street traffic bring stray animals carrying fleas?

Heavy street traffic can bring strays, but the primary flea source in a flat is usually a household pet or infested neighbours. The road is a secondary factor, but treatment accounts for it.

How much does flea control in Al Zahir cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Zahir.
