Flea control in At Tanim Makkah

At Tanim is the miqat of Makkah's residents and a constant flow of pilgrims on the Madinah road. Ihram shops, coach stations and street animals pass through without settling. Fleas here are seasonal and transient, linked to the rhythm of pilgrimage traffic rather than fixed residence.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in At Tanim

Animals moving through with pilgrims bring transient fleas, and the infestations we see are not the stable populations of residential districts but episodic peaks during pilgrimage seasons. The method is set out in full on the full Flea control page.

The first reason

Seasonal flow of transport and stray animals

Coach stations and intense activity during pilgrimage seasons bring stray and transit animals carrying fleas. Our treatment is timed for these cycles, not continuous, because the source is external and seasonal.

The second reason

Small commercial shops and storage areas

Ihram shops, restaurants and small traders along the road keep stocks, covers and basic bedding that create temporary flea refuges during peak seasons.

The third reason

Gaps beneath commercial buildings

Spaces between shops, stores and narrow passages where animals rest hold fleas from passing animals and create a bridge between the street and indoor spaces above.

The character of At Tanim

Commercial area: offices, showrooms and small stores

At Tanim presents a different pattern because it is a commercial area: fleas here are often seasonal and transient rather than established, driven by pilgrim traffic and passing animals rather than fixed residents. Our treatment focuses on storage, gaps and passages rather than the stable domestic environment of residential districts.

Before treatment

The resting places map the infestation

A commercial zone around Masjid Aisha on the Madinah road, with coach stations, pilgrim shops and a continuous flow of travellers at the northern boundary of the Haram.

A close view of dense carpet pile

The base of the carpet

Carpet in shops and small hotels accumulates dust and fleas from foot traffic and passing animals throughout the year.

An empty pet bed on a room floor

Where the animal sleeps

Animals sleeping in gaps beneath shops and stores transmit fleas to the floors and storage spaces above, and to adjacent commercial spaces.

A fine toothed comb on a white towel

Flea dirt

Flea dirt appears in storage corners, old bedding and stored textiles within the shops where dust settles and remains.

The underside edge of a fabric sofa

Furniture edges and upholstery

Furniture edges, shelves and cabinets in commercial spaces harbour fleas and pupae undisturbed between seasons of active use.

Gaps between wooden floor boards

Joints in a hard floor

Joints in hard floors of shops retain fleas and eggs during quiet periods and through seasonal dormancy cycles.

Damp shaded soil beneath shrubs

Damp shade outdoors

Damp shade outside shops near drains provides suitable conditions for the complete flea life cycle to progress.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

  2. 2

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

  3. 3

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

  4. 4

    Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

What flea control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    Confirmation before anything is applied

Telling a flea bite from the alternatives, and fixing the resting places and the centre of the infestation.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Carpet base and floor line treatment

A residual and a growth regulator worked down into the pile and under furniture edges, not laid across the visible surface.

  • A metal floor drain

    Shade and damp outdoors

The shaded patches by entrances and around drains and taps, the only ground outside where larvae survive.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

The source when there is no pet

Stray cats sheltering under an outside stair, or rodents in the voids, each handled on a different footing.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    The vacuum schedule and aftercare

When to vacuum, how to empty the machine, and why the carpet is not steam cleaned afterwards. Ventilation time we give you on the call, because it changes with the product and the space.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A follow-up timed to emergence

A date about two weeks on, timed to the pupae leaving the cocoons, and re-treatment of any room where fresh bites are still starting.

What is different about Al Umrah Sub-Municipality

Al Umrah sub municipality covers the north west of Makkah along the Madinah road and the old Jeddah road, from At Tanim and Masjid Aisha to An Nawwariyah. Its districts are the city's newest, villas and apartment blocks raised on wide schemes where large tracts in Al Umrah Al Jadidah, Al Fayha and Al Buhayrat remain vacant or under construction. Wadi Saraf and Wadi At Tanim run through it and rainwater gathers on unfinished schemes, ihram shops, restaurants and coach stops along the Madinah road serve a constant flow of pilgrims, and villas fill Al Hamra and Umm Al Jud.

Questions about this district

Why do fleas appear in At Tanim shops at certain times of year?

Pilgrim traffic and coach station activity peaks in certain seasons, and the stray animals and rodents that follow bring fleas which may not appear at other times.

Do fleas in ihram shops come from animals or from stored goods?

Most cases come from stray animals entering the shop, or from stored goods sourced externally that carry established fleas.

Do you treat commercial shops the same way as residential homes?

No, commercial premises need different treatment because storage, gaps and constant customer movement require timed, targeted approaches.

How do you handle fleas spreading between adjacent shops on the same road?

We carefully treat gaps between shops and shared passages because they form highways along which fleas travel between premises.

Are fleas in commercial shops a risk to passing customers?

Risk to transient customers is low, but the risk is higher for staff and residents in apartments above the shops.

When is the best time to treat fleas in At Tanim shops?

Several weeks before the Hajj and Umrah seasons begin, then light follow up during peak times to prevent outbreaks.

How much does flea control in At Tanim cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach At Tanim.
