Fly control in Al Zahir Makkah

Al Zahir is a very old district on the north west side of the Haram on the Madinah road, cut through by the Third Ring Road and ancient wadis. The residential blocks were built decades ago and the drainage systems are older still. Flies here do not come from food but from the damp old environment and poor drainage.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Zahir

Fly numbers in Al Zahir spike when rain falls because wadis carry water and silt. The damp left behind gives flies shelter for weeks after the ground dries. The method is set out in full on our Fly control service.

The first reason

Aged construction and weak drainage in very old buildings

Buildings in Al Zahir date back decades and their drainage has not been updated. Pipes stay perpetually damp and biofilm dominates the runs. This is nothing like a new district where drains are modern and sealed.

The second reason

Wadis, seasonal floods and persistent silt in the soil

Wadi Al Zahir carries floods right after rain, then water dries leaving silt and dampness in the soil under buildings. This continuous moisture provides rich fly breeding ground all year.

The third reason

Hillside foundations, trapped moisture and enclosed voids

The nearby mountains and Jabal Al Barud trap moisture. Underground voids and basements in old blocks stay damp and dark always, forming natural fly breeding chambers.

Where the flies are actually coming from

An old district enclosed by hills and wadis, with packed residential buildings on damp foundations and ancient drainage with seasonal water flow.

A house fly on a window pane

House fly

House flies breed in the damp passages, stairwells and underground voids in old Al Zahir apartment blocks.

A metallic green fly on a wooden surface

Blow fly

Blow flies come from silt and organic waste building up in wadis and the damp soil around building foundations.

Over-ripe fruit in a wooden bowl

Fermenting residue

Fermenting residue accumulates in old drain pipes and damp underground spaces, an endless source of new flies.

Waste bins standing on concrete

The bin base

Bin bases in Al Zahir stay damp all the time from drain water and silt, even when the bin itself is cleaned.

A floor drain grate set in tiling

The film inside a drain

Very old drainage in Al Zahir holds thick biofilm and tree roots that breach the pipes, creating the perfect fly environment.

The service door and its mesh

Service doors and mesh in old blocks may be damaged or weak, so flies enter easily through gaps.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and trace the source

We trace the flies back to their medium: waste and the bin area, floor traps, drain runs and any standing organic wetness, and we identify the species from its size, its flight and where it settles.

  2. 2

    Treat the breeding medium

Washing and scouring bin bases and floor traps, and a foam that treats the film inside the pipe, because removing the medium is the only thing that stops production.

  3. 3

    Treat the resting surfaces

A fly spends most of its time settled on ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, and that is where the residual and the bait go, not into the air.

  4. 4

    Proofing and the follow-up

We close the ways in and sort out the screens and the doors, then come back on a date matching the emergence of the pupae that were already in the medium on the first visit.

What fly control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A source tracing inspection

The species, the breeding medium and the route in, established before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drains and floor traps

Scouring the film stuck inside the pipe and treating it with foam, which is where drain flies come from and almost nowhere else.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Residual on the resting surfaces

Ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, kept off food preparation surfaces.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Fly bait in protected positions

An attractant bait set at bin areas and service entrances, out of reach of children and pets and away from food.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and what needs a screen, an air curtain or a different waste routine.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date matching the emergence of the pupae, and re-treatment of any source still producing.

Questions about this district

Do flies in Al Zahir come from the wadis or from inside the block?

Flies come from everywhere. But the root cause is perpetual dampness under the building and weak drainage. The wadis only worsen it.

Is treating a single flat sufficient or must the whole block be treated?

Treating one flat alone is not enough in Al Zahir because flies come through shared stairs, passages and the central drainage. The whole building must be treated.

Why does fly infestation spike right after rainfall?

Rain makes the soil extremely wet and fills water channels with silt that strongly attracts flies. The damp lingers weeks after the rain stops.

Does daily street sweeping reduce fly numbers in Al Zahir?

Sweeping helps but does not solve the root problem because flies breed underground in drains and damp soil, not on the surface.

Is a first floor flat or a tenth floor flat different in fly pressure?

Upper flats suffer slightly less but not much, because flies travel from shared stairs and passages. The tenth floor is not fully protected.

Is repairing the old drainage network the real solution?

Yes, fixing the drains is the long term solution. But until that happens, regular treatment is absolutely necessary.

How much does fly control in Al Zahir cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Zahir.
