Repeated floors mean long corridors, closely-spaced doors and tight service ducting. Insects move between apartments through pipe apertures and gaps around utilities, so fumigation must penetrate the hollow walls and service channels where the infrastructure hides.

What decides whether fumigation is the right method

The district is an old one with narrow lanes and historic palaces converted to hotels, whilst modern tower blocks were built swiftly to house seasonal visitors. Water and sewer lines are mixed and tangled between old and new construction, and repair is ongoing.

Grain and feed are not stored in quantity in hotels, but hotel kitchens may hold flour, wheat and dried grains for daily bread production and pastry work.

Empty cartons from food deliveries accumulate in the kitchen prep area and the rear storage rooms attached to the main kitchen.

Aeration after fumigation happens by opening all windows, doors and internal passages to allow fresh air to penetrate, and kitchens and bathrooms need especially strong aeration to clear any trapped vapour.

How we work

Survey and sampling

We identify the pest and its stage, go through the stock, the racking and the corners, measure the volume, and establish whether the place can be sealed as it stands or a sheeted enclosure has to be built over the stacks.

Sealing and preparation

Sheeting sealed to the floor around the stacks or the room closed up, vents, drains and door edges shut, the area emptied of people and warning signage placed before anything is introduced.

Gas introduction and monitored exposure

The dose is calculated from the volume, the commodity and its temperature, and readings through the period confirm the concentration is still there at the end of the exposure and not only at the start.

Aeration, clearance and the record

Forced ventilation, then repeated readings until the space is handed back, and a report covering what was found, how the enclosure was built, the exposure period, the readings and what needs correcting at goods inwards.

What fumigation includes

A recorded survey

Pest and stage, samples from the commodity, and the volume of the space, before fumigation is decided on at all.
Sealing the enclosure

Vents, floor drains, door edges and cable runs, which is where the gas goes if nobody closes them.
Dosing and monitored exposure

Dose set by volume, commodity and temperature, with readings tracking the concentration to the end of the exposure.
Aeration and clearance readings

Extraction and forced ventilation, then repeated readings, and the space is not opened to staff until a reading allows it.
Monitoring points afterwards

Questions about this district

Can we fumigate the hotel without evacuating all guests at once?

All guests must leave every room. We fumigate each floor separately at night or on a fixed shift, moving guests to safe rooms in another section. Partial fumigation simply displaces insects to the untreated sections.

What about fridges and furniture stored in the basement?

Hotel basements or service floors hold stored furniture, cabinets and equipment. Gas enters every void, but doors and drawers must be opened to ensure the gas reaches the inside of stored items.

How do we treat upholstered furniture and soft furnishings in guest rooms?

Upholstered items must be left uncovered during treatment, not wrapped or closed. Gas penetrates fabric and filling, but complete aeration ensures no residue remains. Bedding and pillows stay open throughout the aeration phase.

Is fumigating a single apartment enough, or do insects move to neighbours?

Neighbouring apartments are connected by pipes, ducts and ventilation gaps. Treating one flat may simply displace insects to the next. We recommend fumigating the whole floor or at least the south or north wing as a unit.

When can guests return to their rooms after treatment?

After fumigation we aerate by opening all windows and doors for several hours until fresh air fully saturates the space. Once aeration is complete and readings show the space is safe, rooms are ready for immediate occupancy.

Does fumigation damage hotel furniture or interior decoration?

Gas leaves no residue on furniture, walls or decor. Bedding, cushions, clothing and towels need no washing unless the hotel chooses an extra precaution, which is rare in practice.
