Why they keep coming back in Al Ruwais

The first reason

Shared wiring and pipes connect the flats to each other

Sheeting sealed to the floor around the stacks or the room closed up, vents, drains and door edges shut, the area emptied of people and warning signage placed before anything is introduced.

The dose is calculated from the volume, the commodity and its temperature, and readings through the period confirm the concentration is still there at the end of the exposure and not only at the start.

Aeration, clearance and the record

Forced ventilation, then repeated readings until the space is handed back, and a report covering what was found, how the enclosure was built, the exposure period, the readings and what needs correcting at goods inwards.

What is different about Al Sharafiyah Sub-Municipality

The Al Sharafiyah sub municipality runs across central Jeddah from Al Ruwais near the Corniche eastwards through Al Sharafiyah, Al Wurud and Bani Malik to Al Naseem at the Haramain Road. It was among the first areas to grow beyond the old wall, and it is dominated by dense apartment blocks over shops along King Fahd Road and Palestine Street, with old popular quarters, the Bani Malik market, car workshops and storerooms. Ageing buildings, worn drainage and the refuse of restaurants and markets make cockroaches and rodents the most persistent pests, and humidity rises towards the sea.

Questions about this district

Can we fumigate just one flat or must the entire building be treated?

A single flat can be fumigated, but if the block is old and shares pipes and wiring, pests will return from neighbouring flats. Treating the flat along with the shared corridors and stairs gives much better control.

Will a neighbouring flat be affected by our fumigation work?

Yes. Gas can spread through shared pipes, wiring conduits and gaps between flats. Neighbours must be warned beforehand to take precautions, and all openings between units should be sealed during treatment.

Do the shared stairwell and corridors need separate fumigation?

Yes. The stairs and common corridors are prime insect habitat and rodent routes. Fumigating the shared spaces first, then the individual flats inside, gives the best results.

What do we do with shared wiring and pipes before fumigation?

Shared wiring and pipes are not sealed; instead, they become pathways for the gas. The fumigation gas penetrates pipes and gaps around cables to kill insects inside the conduits.

How often should we fumigate a flat in Al Ruwais yearly?

In Al Ruwais, treatment every six months is recommended at minimum, especially if the flat is in an older building. Shared infrastructure makes pests return faster than in single-family dwellings.
