Questions about this district

Is the open channel responsible for all mosquitoes in the district?

The channel is a major source but not the only one. Flowing water may reduce local pooling, but accumulated water at channel edges and low points supplies permanent sources. Hospitals and markets supply additional sources that persist regardless of channel flow.

Is treating the channel safe for residents and hospitals beside it?

Yes, because the channel is open and treatment targets flowing water, not ground or buildings. It requires coordination with the hospital and residents to prevent unintended contact. Treatment targets mosquito larvae, not adults.

Could cleaning the channel replace chemical treatment?

Channel cleaning alone cannot stop mosquitoes. The channel naturally collects water, and pools return quickly. Chemical treatment is necessary because cleaning alone is not a permanent solution.

Do hospitals breed more mosquitoes than homes because they are cleaner?

Hospitals create different mosquito populations but not necessarily more. However, high patient and staff traffic spreads mosquitoes from hospital to surrounding district easily. Nearby markets may supply more sources than the hospital itself.

Does constant lorry movement affect mosquito distribution in the district?

Yes. Lorries carry moisture on tyres and bodies, and leave damp courtyards and standing water. Continuous movement means mosquitoes spread between locations faster than in purely residential areas.

Is treating the whole district once better than targeting specific points?

Treating specific points is better because the main sources are the channel, hospitals and markets. Treating all residential buildings without treating these primary sources will not stop mosquitoes returning.
