New villas sit alone in vacant ground, and their excavations and boreholes remain open for weeks before they are sealed. Water collects in them from rainfall, garden irrigation and construction activities.

The hills around the district cast long shade in early morning and late afternoon, and adult mosquitoes rest in this shade throughout the day, emerging after sunset.

The character of Al Mudaa Al Jadid

New development: ongoing construction and vacant plots between the homes

The district is brand new and buildings are widely scattered, meaning open excavations and vacant plots dominate the problem now. Treating the wadi and pits first is simpler than chasing mosquitoes across dispersed villas later.

Before treatment

Standing water and shade decide the method

The district lies south of the Haram boundary marker at Al Ukayshiyah. Building is very dispersed and the soil is sand mixed with silt carried by the wadi.

The daytime biter

Daytime mosquitoes hide in the long shade cast by Jabal Labanah and surrounding hills and in shade from open excavations across the plots.

Immediately after sunset, mosquitoes emerge from shade shelters and from Wadi Uranah to move towards the scattered new villas.

How we work

Inspect and map the water

We walk the perimeter, the roof, the garden, the meter chambers and the condensate runs, record everything that holds water, and read the species from the breeding site and the time of biting.

Remove the water that can go

Empty, invert, cover: saucers, containers, old tyres and roof gullies. Every point that disappears is a treatment that never needs repeating.

Larval treatment, then the resting surfaces

Water that cannot be drained is treated so the larva never completes, then a residual goes under planting, beneath outdoor furniture and along low shaded walls.

The follow-up visit

We come back once the generation that was in the water on the first visit has completed, review every point we recorded and re-treat where needed.

What is different about South Makkah Sub-Municipality

South Makkah sub municipality is the belt of Crown Prince schemes south of Al Ukayshiyah, along the Al Laith road and the extension of Ibrahim Al Khalil Road to the Fifth Ring Road and the Non Muslims bypass. Most of it is still bare: granted plots awaiting houses, new villas standing alone, open building sites and unfinished paving and drainage. Wadi Uranah and its tributaries cross the low ground and hold water after rain, hills close it in, and rodents, reptiles and scorpions shelter in stacked materials and foundation pits before the neighbourhoods fill up.

Questions about this district

Is Jabal Labanah and surrounding hills a main source of mosquitoes?

No. The hills provide shade and dampness only. The main source is Wadi Uranah and the standing water it leaves after rain, plus open excavations throughout the district.

Is rainfall flooding the main mosquito source here?

Absolutely. Wadi Uranah carries large volumes of water quickly and leaves damp silt in every low spot. This silt is the primary breeding source.

Does soil that mixes sand with silt speed mosquito development?

Yes. Silt retains moisture longer than pure sand, and mosquitoes develop faster in wet silt than in drier ground.

Does any sports stadium nearby bring mosquitoes to the district?

Al Mudaa Al Jadid does not contain a stadium. Sources here are natural: Wadi Uranah, excavations and vacant ground.

Is treating a single villa enough in a district this dispersed?

No. Villas are too scattered and the main sources are outside each villa: Wadi Uranah, excavations and low ground all around you.

Must the whole district be treated because villas are so scattered?

Yes. Mosquitoes move easily between scattered villas and centralised sources like the wadi. Treating the whole district is far more effective.
