We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

Can bed bugs move directly from a food shop on the ground floor to the residential flat above?

Yes, directly, especially when the shop closes at night and the flat is occupied. Bed bugs sense warmth, moisture and odour from the upper floor, and climb through any opening available.

Must the shop and flat be treated at exactly the same time or can they be done separately?

They must be treated together at the same time without question. Separate treatment drives insects from the treated side toward the untreated one, making the colony harder to control.

Are the pipes and technical openings between floors responsible for spreading bed bugs?

Entirely, and vertical pipes provide fast routes. Small openings around waste, electrical and air conditioning pipes are large enough for bed bugs to pass through easily.

Does a produce shop or restaurant provide a better environment than the flat above?

Each provides what the bed bugs need: the shop supplies food and moisture, the flat supplies shelter and warmth. Insects live in the shop at night and move to the flat as needed.

Is treating one flat in a mixed building sufficient if the shop below is clean?

No, even if the shop appears clean, bed bugs may have lived there before and remain in small crevices. Every connection point between floors must be treated as well.

May the shop owner and the resident above disagree about who pays for treatment?

It happens, but effective treatment requires their cooperation. If either refuses, treatment will fail and insects will return inevitably.
