Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

Questions about this district

Our villa garden has fleas and we water daily. Must we stop watering?

Do not stop watering entirely, but reduce to alternate days and let the surface soil dry partially. The insecticide works better when the top soil is slightly drier than saturated.

We have a pet in the garden that carries fleas. Must it be treated first?

Yes, the pet must be treated by a vet before we treat the garden. Even if we clear the soil, the animal will deposit fresh fleas into the earth within days.

A weak fence lets the neighbour's cats in regularly. Are they the source?

Possibly. If cats enter often, ask your neighbour to treat his garden too. If he refuses, repair the fence before treatment to block the regular entry route.

We have a plant shelter under the outdoor stairs. Is it a flea nest?

Yes, shaded and damp zones under plants and stairs are a flea stronghold. Treatment focuses closely on these gaps and the soil around them.

Two months after treatment fleas reappeared from the neighbour's garden. How do we stop it?

Talk to your neighbour about treating his garden too. If he refuses, you may need more frequent treatment cycles because the source of infestation has not been addressed.

Do fleas hide in plant leaves and thick grass in the garden?

Adult fleas do not live on leaves, but hide in soil and thick weed patches. Cut grass short before treatment to reduce hiding places and improve insecticide coverage.
