We trace the flies back to their medium: waste and the bin area, floor traps, drain runs and any standing organic wetness, and we identify the species from its size, its flight and where it settles.

Treat the breeding medium

Washing and scouring bin bases and floor traps, and a foam that treats the film inside the pipe, because removing the medium is the only thing that stops production.

Treat the resting surfaces

A fly spends most of its time settled on ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, and that is where the residual and the bait go, not into the air.

Proofing and the follow-up

We close the ways in and sort out the screens and the doors, then come back on a date matching the emergence of the pupae that were already in the medium on the first visit.

What is different about Al Aziziyah Sub-Municipality

The Al Aziziyah sub municipality takes in the established heart of northern Jeddah, from the Al Hamra corniche on the Red Sea to Al Rehab east of King Abdullah Road. Its buildings date back decades, mostly mid rise apartment blocks over shops and closely packed restaurants along Makarona Road, Tahliah Street and Palestine Street, alongside villas and hotel towers near the shore. Sea humidity is high in the western districts, plumbing and drainage in the older blocks are ageing, and food outlets, hospitals and irrigated gardens are everywhere, conditions that favour cockroaches, ants, mosquitoes and rodents throughout the year.

Questions about this district

Are the restaurants and shops on Makarona Road the main reason for flies in the flats above?

Yes entirely. Food outlets are primary fly sources, and flies climb directly into upper flats through pipes and gaps. The separation is very weak in Al Aziziyah.

Why is the fly problem worse in the upper flat than in the lower one in the same building?

The ground flat is closer to the shop but may have better sealing. The upper flat is distant from the shop but sits on the direct ascent line for flies through pipes, so it may get the flies that did not settle lower.

Does cleaning the shop without treatment reduce flies in the flat above it?

Cleaning reduces flies a little but does not solve the problem. Fly larvae develop under shop flooring and in pipes, and surface cleaning does not reach them.

Are the popular markets in Al Aziziyah a bigger fly source than the restaurants?

Markets are a huge source because waste is scattered and uncontained. Restaurants have better waste control. Together the two create enormous pressure on the district.

Are the numbered villas in Al Aziziyah better protected from flies than the apartment blocks?

The villas are slightly better because they are further from shops, but they are not protected entirely. Flies fly easily from the main commercial spines to the numbered villas, especially in summer.

Does winter reduce the fly problem in Al Aziziyah significantly?

Winter cuts flies but not dramatically because restaurants and shops are open year round and flies continue actively. Spring and summer are much worse, but the district never becomes fly free.
