Fly control in Al Wazeeriyah Jeddah

Al Wazeeriyah is a compact mixed district in south Jeddah, framed by four main roads, with apartments and villas packed closely together and shops and restaurants on the ground floors. The residential density is high, every home is near several food outlets, and distances between sources and homes are very short. Flies breed in the district's small eateries and shops and spread fast because people live close together and every resident sees multiple potential sources from their windows.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Wazeeriyah

Each food shop is small but sits metres from dozens of flats, and flies move between sources and homes in hours rather than days. The method is set out in full on Fly control in detail.

The first reason

High density compressed into small space

The district is bounded by four main roads and building is very dense. Every block sits above shops, and every shop is steps away from apartments. Flies move easily between sources and homes, and because the area is small, pressure from multiple shops concentrates on the same residential streets.

The second reason

Multiple food sources packed into a small footprint

Al Wazeeriyah has more restaurants and food shops than a district of its size would normally hold, because the population is high and the boundary is fixed. Every shop is a potential hatch site and the sources cluster tightly together.

The third reason

Relative isolation that concentrates pressure

The district is ringed by large roads, so flies do not disperse outward easily. Instead pressure concentrates within the boundaries. The closed geography means fly populations build faster than in an open neighborhood with many exit routes.

The character of Al Wazeeriyah

Mixed district: shops at street level with homes above them

Ground floor shops mean constant pressure on the flats above them, and shared voids between shop and apartment provide highways for flies. Treating the district as a single system is more effective than treating one apartment in isolation.

Before treatment

Where the flies are actually coming from

A small framed district with dense apartment and villa housing, multiple restaurants and food shops, close to Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium and King Abdulaziz Hospital.

A house fly on a window pane

House fly

House flies dominate here, breeding in the dense eateries and shops and spreading easily across the short distances between all homes.

A metallic green fly on a wooden surface

Blow fly

Blow flies are less common but present in the meat and poultry shops, and the small district means they reach apartments quickly.

Over-ripe fruit in a wooden bowl

Fermenting residue

Fermenting residue in shop and restaurant bins supplies fast developing food. The small district footprint intensifies the concentration.

Waste bins standing on concrete

The bin base

Bin bases in small shops are weak and standing. Every shop is a potential source and many sit side by side.

A floor drain grate set in tiling

The film inside a drain

The drain film in eateries and food shops builds thick. The old drainage in the district maintains constant moisture.

A metal service door on a building exterior

The service door and its mesh

Service doors and screens in shops may be limited in their protection. In a small crowded district, shielding one door may not be enough.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and trace the source

We trace the flies back to their medium: waste and the bin area, floor traps, drain runs and any standing organic wetness, and we identify the species from its size, its flight and where it settles.

  2. 2

    Treat the breeding medium

Washing and scouring bin bases and floor traps, and a foam that treats the film inside the pipe, because removing the medium is the only thing that stops production.

  3. 3

    Treat the resting surfaces

A fly spends most of its time settled on ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, and that is where the residual and the bait go, not into the air.

  4. 4

    Proofing and the follow-up

We close the ways in and sort out the screens and the doors, then come back on a date matching the emergence of the pupae that were already in the medium on the first visit.

What fly control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A source tracing inspection

The species, the breeding medium and the route in, established before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drains and floor traps

Scouring the film stuck inside the pipe and treating it with foam, which is where drain flies come from and almost nowhere else.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Residual on the resting surfaces

Ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, kept off food preparation surfaces.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Fly bait in protected positions

An attractant bait set at bin areas and service entrances, out of reach of children and pets and away from food.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and what needs a screen, an air curtain or a different waste routine.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date matching the emergence of the pupae, and re-treatment of any source still producing.

What is different about South Sub-Municipality

The South sub municipality runs from the edge of Old Makkah Road down to Al Khumrah and the southern corniche. Dense residential districts sit beside new subdivisions such as Al Sanabil and Al Taawun, warehouse fringes such as Al Saruriyah and Al Sarawat, and an old seaside settlement at Al Quzayn. Open stormwater channels cross the housing, and the warehouses, the vegetable and livestock markets and the nearby Islamic Port and Industrial City give pests shelter, food and year round humidity. Pressure is greatest in the older quarters, where drainage networks are ageing.

Questions about this district

Why is fly pressure higher in small Al Wazeeriyah than in larger districts?

Because sources are highly concentrated. The district is small but holds a large number of restaurants and shops, so flies breed fast in a confined space and stay there.

Does distance from the industrial zone reduce pest pressure here?

Partly. But the district is surrounded by main roads and pests can arrive from outside. What matters is controlling sources inside the district itself.

Do the open grounds around the stadium shelter flies seasonally?

Yes, open areas near the stadium may offer seasonal shelter. But the main pressure comes from inside the district and its shops.

How do we treat a small food shop in this crowded district?

A small shop needs concentrated treatment: bin base, drains, back store. It may need district wide coordination to manage overall pressure.

Is treating one apartment enough in a small mixed district?

No. Distances are very short and sources are near. The apartment may need repeated treatment because flies enter from neighbouring shops.

How does Al Wazeeriyah differ from Al Rawabi in fly density?

Al Rawabi is much larger, but Al Wazeeriyah has a higher concentration of food shops and eateries. In Al Rawabi sources are spread out, in Al Wazeeriyah they cluster.

How much does fly control in Al Wazeeriyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Wazeeriyah.
