Gecko control in Muad Makkah

Muad is a mixed-use district within Al Sharai where shops occupy street-level units and homes sit above them. This layout means geckos enter from multiple points and travel between floors through shared cavities, wiring runs and pipe spaces, so effective control requires coordination between shop owners and residents. The district sits outside the Haram boundary along Al Qadisiyah Road, relatively built up with mosques and service points that draw insects.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Muad

Flats in mixed-use buildings in Muad report geckos descending from upper floors or climbing from shops below, concentrating around shared electrical, plumbing and air runs. The method is set out in full on the full Gecko control page.

The first reason

Geckos moving between shop and flats

The ground-floor shop draws insects from the street and the building's outdoor lighting. Geckos follow them upward through cavities between the shop level and upper floors. Treating only the shop will not stop them entering the flats above, because these shared vertical spaces are their main route. The building is relatively older, so gaps between floors are not as tight as in new construction.

The second reason

Street-facing exterior lighting

The mixed-use facade on Al Qadisiyah Road runs bright lighting that draws insects at night. Geckos hunt them on the outer walls and slip into cracks and gaps around windows, pipes and wiring where they enter the building. The crevices are deep because the structure predates modern sealing standards, giving them shelter close to food.

The third reason

Piping and wiring between floors

Water and electrical runs that ascend from the shop to the flats above provide geckos with ready-made pathways between storeys. Cracks around these penetrations are old and deep, so geckos wedge into them by day and emerge at night to hunt. The shared nature of these runs means one gecko can move silently through the entire building.

Before treatment

The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method

Al Sharai sits just outside the Haram boundary on Al Qadisiyah Road in a densely developed area with high mosque and services density, plus Al Sharai Park nearby, all of which attract insects that draw geckos to the district.

The house gecko

The house gecko in Muad favours cracks around shared electrical and water runs, and climbs silently between floors at night to hunt in the building's external lighting.

An outdoor wall lamp lit after dark

Outdoor lighting

The building's external lighting on Al Qadisiyah Road is strong and draws heavy insect activity, and geckos hunt them on the outer walls before slipping into cracks around windows and penetrations.

An insect screen on a window, seen close up

Window mesh

Window frames in Muad's flats often have gaps due to older construction standards, and mesh may be corroded or poorly fitted, allowing geckos easy entry.

Air-conditioner pipes passing through an outside wall

The air-conditioner sleeve

Air-conditioner sleeves in flats often penetrate into the shared cavities between floors, creating a direct route for geckos to enter from the vertical runs.

An electrical distribution board mounted on a wall

Meter boxes and electrical panels

Electrical panels in mixed-use buildings are often shared or positioned near inter-floor cavities, and geckos wedge around them because they offer dark shelter and stable temperature.

A garden wall with watered planting beside it

The garden and the irrigation

Small shared courtyards or planting areas in some buildings draw insects, and irrigation may raise ground moisture around the outer walls, attracting both insects and the geckos that feed on them.

How we work

  1. 1

Inspect at night and find the source

We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.

  2. 2

    Treat the food source

We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.

  3. 3

Close the openings and clear the crevices

We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.

What gecko control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded night inspection

Wall faces, lighting, entry points and egg sites, all established before anything is applied.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Treating the insects on the walls

Targeted treatment around lighting, windows and the building perimeter, because the food is what keeps it there.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed repellent in the crevices

Behind panels, in wall joints and at the ceiling-void entries, where it sits out the day.

  • A metal floor drain

    Screening vents and drain openings

Shafts, vents and the condensate outlet, which are entry points nobody looks at.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and the change to the outside lighting that stops the insects gathering again.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.

The character of Muad

Mixed district: shops at street level with homes above them

A mixed-use building in Muad means geckos enter from multiple sources: insects from the shop, external lighting, and the shared cavities. Successful control requires coordination between shop owner and residents, and often needs repeat visits to deep crevices and shared vertical runs because eggs may be laid in hard-to-reach spots.

Questions about this district

Why does the gecko enter a flat on the second floor from below?

Gaps around electrical cables and water pipes ascending from the shop allow geckos to climb between floors. If the shop below yours draws heavy insect traffic, geckos follow it upward through these gaps. Treating the shop is helpful but rarely solves the problem on its own, because the vertical pathways and their depths provide independent gecko shelter.

Is the commercial shop directly below us the main source of geckos?

The shop draws insects through lighting, food and moisture, and geckos do follow. However, geckos also enter through the building's exterior cracks and windows if the building's external lighting is strong enough to attract insects. The problem may be shared between the shop, the exterior, and the shared vertical runs.

If we treat the flat and shop together, how many visits until geckos stop?

In mixed-use buildings, treating both the flat and shop reduces the problem significantly, but the cavities between them may hold older geckos or cemented eggs. A second visit two weeks later is often needed to confirm that eggs have hatched and been removed, and that no geckos are re-entering from the shared vertical spaces.

Does sealing windows and doors stop geckos entering from the street?

Good sealing reduces entry through windows and doors, but geckos may still enter through air-conditioner sleeves, drain openings and tiny gaps in older construction. Chemical treatment is necessary to eliminate geckos already hiding in deep cracks within the building structure.

Is a first-floor flat more gecko-prone than upper-floor flats?

First-floor units are more exposed if the shop beneath draws heavy insect activity, but upper floors suffer too if the shared vertical cavities are deep and geckos are climbing from below. In a mixed-use building, the floor number matters less than the proximity to food sources and the depth of crevices.

Must the shared cavity between shop and flat be treated separately?

Yes. Shared cavities around wiring and pipes are major gecko shelter. Treatment of these spaces is essential and may require the shop owner's permission. Deep cavities often hold cemented eggs, so a follow-up visit is usually needed to confirm the eggs have hatched and the cavity is clear.

How much does gecko control in Muad cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Muad.
