Gecko control in Sharai Makkah

Sharai is a large residential extension north east of Makkah laid out along King Faisal Road, with villas, apartment buildings, vacant plots, a park, cemetery and many mosques on a regular grid. The district was an older scheme later developed, so new buildings sit alongside old foundations.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Sharai

Vacant plots between villas and apartment blocks attract rodents and insects, and the gecko shelters in these empty spaces at night then enters nearby houses to feed. The method is set out in full on the full Gecko control page.

The first reason

Vacant land between new construction

Sharai is a developing scheme, and vacant plots between villas and apartment buildings are numerous and collect rainwater. Insects and rodents shelter in them. Geckos arrive from these spaces into neighbouring houses throughout the night.

The second reason

New villas next to older ones

Some villas are newly built on clean new land with modern isolation, others sit on old foundations or adjoin vacant plots. New villas are better isolated, but older ones and those near vacant land need deeper treatment.

The third reason

The park and cemetery are night shelters

Al Sharai Park and the cemetery provide shade and damp soil for insects and rodents. The gecko shelters there at night and feeds in surrounding houses. Treating the park and cemetery perimeter reduces populations in nearby homes.

Sharai on the map

Sharai sits about 1.5 km from Salam and about 2 km from Muad.

The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method

The Haram boundary marker runs along Sharai's western edge, the ground is slightly raised and dry, and the new construction on wide plots sits over some older filled land and aged footings.

The house gecko

The house gecko in Sharai arrives mainly from vacant plots, the park and the cemetery which surround it, so inside villa treatment must be paired with comprehensive external treatment around the entire area.

An outdoor wall lamp lit after dark

Outdoor lighting

External villa lighting attracts insects from vacant land, and geckos come for the prey not the light, so reducing night time lighting reduces incoming geckos.

An insect screen on a window, seen close up

Window mesh

Window mesh protects from small insects and young geckos, but larger geckos may breach it or enter through other unsealed openings around the villa perimeter.

Air-conditioner pipes passing through an outside wall

The air-conditioner sleeve

Air conditioner sleeves in new villas are usually well sealed, but older ones have gaps, and geckos enter from vacant plots, so blocking these openings is essential.

An electrical distribution board mounted on a wall

Meter boxes and electrical panels

Electrical panels in new villas sit on outer walls and may be near vacant plots, and cracks around them offer entry, so cleaning and injecting them reduces populations.

A garden wall with watered planting beside it

The garden and the irrigation

The private garden around a villa shelters insects and rodents, and night time watering attracts geckos, so reducing night irrigation and clearing garden margins reduces incomers.

How we work

  1. 1

Inspect at night and find the source

We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.

  2. 2

    Treat the food source

We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.

  3. 3

Close the openings and clear the crevices

We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.

What gecko control includes

    A recorded night inspection

Wall faces, lighting, entry points and egg sites, all established before anything is applied.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Behind panels, in wall joints and at the ceiling-void entries, where it sits out the day.

Shafts, vents and the condensate outlet, which are entry points nobody looks at.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

Are the vacant plots between my villa and neighbouring villas the source of geckos?

Yes, vacant plots supply insects, rodents and moisture. The gecko shelters in them at night and enters neighbouring villas to feed. Treating the empty land reduces geckos in the surrounding villas.

Does my newly built villa have protection from geckos from the vacant land beside it?

New villas have better isolation than old ones, but vacant plots nearby still harbour geckos that may enter through any unsealed opening. External treatment around the villa perimeter is necessary.

How often must I treat given the vacant plots around my villa?

If the vacant land is treated with you, one treatment is usually sufficient with light repeat visits. If the vacant plots are not treated, repeat treatment becomes necessary.

Does Al Sharai Park shelter geckos?

Yes, trees and damp soil provide shelter and food. The gecko shelters in the park at night and spreads into nearby villas and apartment buildings.

Are villas on old foundations more exposed than those newly built?

Yes, old foundations have more cracks and lack modern damp proofing. New villas on new foundations resist entry better.

Does the cemetery adjoining the district increase gecko and scorpion problems?

The cemetery provides shade, loose soil and moisture. Both geckos and scorpions shelter there. Treating around the cemetery perimeter reduces movement towards the villas.

How much does gecko control in Sharai cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Sharai.
