Gecko control in Tarwiyah Makkah
Tarwiyah is a renamed scheme east of Al Sharai, between Al Sharai and Al Rashidiyah south of King Faisal Road. New apartment buildings, villas and residential plots sit on a young grid. Vacant land and ongoing building around the district and proximity to King Abdulaziz Sports City provide year round humidity and insects. Geckos migrate from Wadi Mudarraja and neighbouring projects towards new homes.

Why they keep coming back in Tarwiyah
New schemes on King Faisal Road and proximity to King Abdulaziz Sports City provide constant lights and insects. Infestation in new homes here begins quickly. The method is set out in full on Gecko control in detail.
Wadi Mudarraja carries floods and year round moisture
Wadi Mudarraja runs to the east and marks the northern boundary of Tarwiyah. After rain it carries floodwater, moisture and silt. Even on dry days the wadi bed retains moisture from groundwater and drainage from projects above it. This humidity attracts insects, and geckos are drawn to insects from the wadi towards new homes.
King Abdulaziz Sports City supplies insects continuously
King Abdulaziz Sports City borders the north eastern corner of Tarwiyah, with playing fields, gardens and strong night lighting. The fields and gardens maintain high moisture and the lights attract millions of small insects. Geckos arrive from the sports city towards new homes.
New flats in a young scheme offer superior shelter
Tarwiyah is a relatively new scheme with recent buildings and planned street grid. This provides better shelter than neighbouring older districts. Geckos migrate from old quarters, vacant land and other projects towards new homes in Tarwiyah.
The character of Tarwiyah
New development: ongoing construction and vacant plots between the homes
Tarwiyah is emerging, meaning gecko pressure is high and fast moving. The wadi and sports city provide year round moisture and insects. New homes in a young scheme offer better shelter than old districts. Preventive treatment is necessary and intensive follow up visits are recommended during warm seasons.
The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method
Tarwiyah lies on the eastern growth front of Makkah, with Wadi Mudarraja marking its eastern boundary and other schemes developing around it on all sides. King Abdulaziz Sports City provides green spaces, playing fields and strong night lighting.
The house gecko
House geckos in Tarwiyah hide in cracks around new flat and villa foundations and in holes cut hastily by builders. New foundations may contain unsealed gaps.
Outdoor lighting
New flat and villa lights and main street lighting attract insects from the wadi and sports city. Geckos follow insects from the wadi towards the lights.
Window mesh
Windows in new flats and villas may have weak mesh or gaps. Final mesh may not be tight yet.
The air-conditioner sleeve
Air conditioner sleeves in new flats and villas may be poorly sealed. Gaps around them provide direct entry.
Meter boxes and electrical panels
Electrical boxes and meters in new flats and villas may remain open. Holes around panels are safe passages for geckos.
The garden and the irrigation
Small gardens beside some villas may exist, and irrigation provides moisture and insects that attract geckos from the wadi.
How we work
-
1
Inspect at night and find the source
We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.
-
2
Treat the food source
We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.
-
3
Close the openings and clear the crevices
We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.
-
4
The follow-up visit
We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.
What gecko control includes
-
A recorded night inspection
Wall faces, lighting, entry points and egg sites, all established before anything is applied.
-
Treating the insects on the walls
Targeted treatment around lighting, windows and the building perimeter, because the food is what keeps it there.
-
Placed repellent in the crevices
Behind panels, in wall joints and at the ceiling-void entries, where it sits out the day.
-
Screening vents and drain openings
Shafts, vents and the condensate outlet, which are entry points nobody looks at.
-
Aftercare instructions
Ventilation, what to cover, and the change to the outside lighting that stops the insects gathering again.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.
What is different about Al Sharai Sub-Municipality
Al Sharai is the eastern growth front of Makkah along King Faisal Road and the Taif road. Settled quarters sit beside recently renamed schemes where plots are still vacant and buildings are going up, so construction sites, fill and open excavations lie next to occupied homes. Wadi channels such as Wadi Mudarraja, Wadi Al Sharai and Wadi Al Mughammas carry flash floods after rain and dry out to damp silt, while dust blows off the open hills. Roadside shops, restaurants and warehouses line the Taif road, and to the east the area shades into villages, palm farms and springs.
Questions about this district
Does Wadi Mudarraja beside Tarwiyah mean treatment will not hold?
The wadi carries moisture and insects, but migration is temporary. Treatment removes current residents and a second visit two weeks later kills eggs. Intensive defensive treatment around homes stops migrants from the wadi.
Does King Abdulaziz Sports City next to the district increase infestation?
Yes. The sports city provides green spaces and strong lighting. This attracts large insect populations. Flats and villas beside the sports city will receive higher gecko numbers.
Is Tarwiyah better than Al Sharai because it is newer?
Tarwiyah is newer and better planned than Al Sharai. But its location next to the wadi and the sports city means high gecko pressure. Newer districts may be better than old ones, but not significantly if migrant sources are close.
Does treating one flat in a building stop geckos from other flats?
Treating one flat removes its residents. Other flats in the building may already be infested, and geckos may move from them. Coordinating treatment across an entire building is better than treating one flat alone.
When will we need a second treatment in Tarwiyah?
First treatment removes current residents. Second treatment two weeks later is necessary when eggs hatch. After that, retreatment every three weeks in summer and spring because migrants arrive rapidly.
Does Al Sawwat Mosque beside the district increase infestation?
Al Sawwat Mosque is a fixed location. If gardens surround it, it may provide moisture and insects. But real pressure comes from the wadi and sports city, not the mosque.
How much does gecko control in Tarwiyah cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Tarwiyah.
