Inspect and trace

We sound the timber and the skirting, take moisture readings, and follow the tubes to the point where they leave the soil. We also settle the species, because one that lives inside dry wood is not treated like one that lives in the ground.

Treat the soil around the building

A narrow trench at the footing and injection at regular spacing, so the treated band runs continuous with no gap to walk around.

Drill the joints, inject the timber

Small holes at spacing along the slab joints, the wall bases and the pipe entries, direct injection into the galleries inside the affected timber, then the holes are closed and made good.

Bait stations and monitoring

Stations in the soil carrying a slow-acting material the workers pass through the colony by mouth-to-mouth feeding, and we come back to read them, because an empty tube on a wall proves nothing on its own.

What is different about Al Sharai Sub-Municipality

Al Sharai is the eastern growth front of Makkah along King Faisal Road and the Taif road. Settled quarters sit beside recently renamed schemes where plots are still vacant and buildings are going up, so construction sites, fill and open excavations lie next to occupied homes. Wadi channels such as Wadi Mudarraja, Wadi Al Sharai and Wadi Al Mughammas carry flash floods after rain and dry out to damp silt, while dust blows off the open hills. Roadside shops, restaurants and warehouses line the Taif road, and to the east the area shades into villages, palm farms and springs.

Our house is new in Tarwiyah and the scheme is almost complete. Do we need treatment now or can we wait?

Treatment now is better. Building around your house will wake dormant termites. Treating the footings from the start provides protection against awakened colonies.

Footings are close and building is almost touching. Is treating my house alone enough?

Treating your house alone offers partial protection, but termites spread easily from your neighbour's footing through shared soil. Treating the whole scheme together is better.

The wadi beside the building carries seasonal water. Does it increase termites?

Yes. Water from the wadi raises soil moisture. Houses very close to the wadi channel face higher risk.

King Abdulaziz Sports City is right beside us. Does it affect termites?

The sports city may be treated or infested. What matters is that building around your house will wake termites in the shared soil.

How often should a new house in a newly developed scheme be inspected?

Inspect every three months initially. After year one if none are found inspections can move to every six months.

The scheme was renamed and building is new. Does that mean it is safe from termites?

Renaming and new infrastructure does not mean new ground. The soil beneath is old and holds dormant termites. Building awakens them.
