Every guest room opens onto the same corridor. Insects crawl between door seals and floor gaps and the gaps in the partition panelling. Treating one room without treating the corridor and adjoining rooms leaves an active migration route open. We treat the corridor and the voids behind the concealed panels at the same visit.

Power, water, air handling and waste lines run up and down the outside walls and punch through every floor boundary. Insects use them as vertical highways. Treating room five without treating three above leaves a clear route for downward reinfection.

Walk the floor, room by room

We start from what the staff reported, open the beds, lift the headboards and check the rooms either side and the ones above and below, then mark each room as affected, adjacent or clear.

Treatment outside occupied hours

Seams are vacuumed first, then steam or a targeted application goes onto the seams and joints, dust into the frame voids and behind the skirting, and gel bait through the kitchens and service areas. Nothing is broadcast over soft furnishings.

Sealing, and the operating routine

We close the skirting gap, the pipe penetration and the gap under the service corridor door, then agree with the staff that linen is bagged inside the room itself, and what gets reported the moment it is seen.

Follow-up, and putting the room back

We come back once the remaining eggs have hatched, read the monitors and open the bed a second time. A room returns to service on the result of that inspection, and the room number and both dates go into the log.

Ajyad sub municipality takes in the districts that press against the Grand Mosque from the south and west: Ajyad, Al Hajlah, Al Shubaikah, Al Tandabawi and Al Mansour. Hotels and rented apartment blocks for Umrah visitors stack up along Ajyad Street and Ibrahim Al Khalil Street, with kitchens and restaurants running aday and night in season. Behind them, Al Shubaikah and Al Tandabawi keep narrow old lanes on hillside ground where buildings and drains are ageing, and demolition and construction sites are a constant presence around Jabal Omar and the central zone.

Questions about this district

Do bed bugs in a hotel always come from guests' luggage?

Bags are a principal source but not the only one. Insects move through the corridors from an infested room to its neighbour, and up and down through the pipes and cable voids between floors. We inspect the internal migration paths, not just the luggage.

Must an entire hotel close for complete pest treatment?

No. We work in stages: certain rooms close, the rest stay open to guests. We choose which rooms on complaint and location, then return on a visit timed to the hatch before those rooms open again.

If a hotel closes for a full week will the infestation clear completely?

A long closure kills the adults but the eggs remain protected. Hatching arrives days after closure, and the room needs a precisely timed inspection before new guests arrive.

Does an old hotel need the same programme as a new one?

No. Old hotels with poor seals and exposed pipes need faster re-inspection cycles. New ones with tight seals need less frequent checks but they run deeper into the small voids.

If bed bugs appear in Ajyad Emergency Hospital can they reach the hotel?
