Hotels and rented apartment blocks for Umrah visitors stack up along Ajyad Street and Ibrahim Al Khalil Street, with kitchens and restaurants running aday and night in season. Behind them, Al Shubaikah and Al Tandabawi keep narrow old lanes on hillside ground where buildings and drains are ageing, and demolition and construction sites are a constant presence around Jabal Omar and the central zone.

Do restaurants inside residential buildings need a different programme?

Yes, because insects migrate between the flats and the restaurant through wall voids and pipe chases. We must inspect the shared zones, the drains beneath street level, and all shared walls and window sills.

Does the narrow lane pattern and damp air worsen the problem?

The lanes trap moisture and shadow, and the ageing drains weep. Together they create ideal conditions for cockroaches and ants, especially around drain openings and fractured pipe runs.

When must the restaurant close during treatment in this area?

We work outside service hours. However, we may need to enter the flats above or below the restaurant if we confirm infestation there, coordinated with the residents.
